UW Recreation has an outstanding opportunity for a Custodian Lead. The Custodian Lead performs a variety of custodial tasks to maintain clean, sanitary, and safe conditions in and around UW Recreation facilities. They lead an assigned custodian in carrying out this work by assigning, instructing, and checking their work. This position reports to the Facilities Manager. The work schedule may vary, but is typically Monday – Friday, 3:30p – 12:00a.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following represents a variety of the responsibilities assigned to the person in this position. The examples represent typical work, but are not intended to be inclusive of all duties required for this position.
•Assign, instruct, and check the work of an assigned custodian. Make routine inspections of assigned areas to determine whether custodial work has been completed at satisfactory levels.
•Complete and/or review maintenance and safety inspection logs.
•Train new employees in proper cleaning techniques and the proper use of power and hand tools.
•Train and supervise temporary hourly custodians.
•Assist in the maintenance of inventory and records of custodial equipment and supplies.
•Distribute custodial equipment and supplies as needed and maintain control over inventory, including the inventory of dry mops and walk-off mats.
•Assist the Facilities Manager in the maintenance of employee records. Use and maintain hand tools and power equipment such as brooms, mops, squeegees, vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor machines, power washers, and other tools required for the cleaning and general maintenance of the UW Recreation facilities.
•Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, drying areas, and the fixtures located in these areas.
•Empty wastebaskets and trash containers and assist with the campus-wide recycling and composting program.
•Sweep, dry and wet mop, scrub, and condition vinyl floor, terrazzo, ceramic floor tiles, hardwood floors, and other floor surfaces. Vacuum and shampoo carpets and furniture.
•Replace toilet paper, paper towels, and other restroom supplies as needed.
•Clean walls, windows, mirrors, vents, display cases, etc.
•Lead others in the setup and removal of furniture and sports equipment required for special events.
•Maintain building security when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants.
•Work cooperatively with other members of the UW Recreation staff in the interest of providing a comprehensive program of activities designed to meet the needs and interest of the University community. Attend staff meetings and required trainings as needed.
•Perform related duties as required, including weekly, monthly, or annual custodial projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Physical ability to do required work AND one year of experience as a Custodian, or equivalent OR Equivalent education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
