Our Temporary Team cleans bathrooms, residential floors, kitchens and dining rooms of our various dining operations and our common areas, at various operations around the UW campus, as well as a few office locations.  This is an on-going need.  Shifts and length of temporary assignment may vary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispenser.
  • Clean chalkboards; sweep, mop and vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs.
  • Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, furniture, etc.
  • Clean kitchenettes, elevators and stairwells.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply finish to floors; use high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean carpets.
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as a vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, or ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
  • Vacuum furniture, drapery and walls.
  • Secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.
  • Set up and take down equipment such as chalkboards and easels and furnishings such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, conferences and events.
  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Report need for repairs and maintenance.
  • May operate high-pressure washer.
  • Inventory, sort and issue linen and bedding; keep student room inventory records; change and make beds.
  • Maintain simple records and produce simple reports.
  • Wash vents, radiators, light fixtures, waste receptacles.
  • Wash interior and easily accessible exterior windows.
  • Perform cleaning and related duties in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or to sweep sidewalks or stairs.
  • Perform various duties related to students checking in and checking out.
  • Drive University vehicles to deliver items and commute to various HFS locations in or around campus
  • Perform related duties as required.

    REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physical ability to perform work and one year of experience as a custodian, or equivalent combination of education and experience

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTS:
  • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.
  • Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License.
    * Custodians may be assigned to work in a residence hall, apartment complex, office/work area or UW Dining facility.
