The College of Engineering’s academic affairs unit is comprised of 11 professional staff members and is responsible for supporting a robust academic experience for students in the college. This includes curriculum, teaching and learning, academic support, student leadership, academic advising, student involvement in clubs and competition groups, etc. The academic affairs leadership team works collaboratively to bring a comprehensive four-year engineering student experience to light. In fall 2018, the College admitted its first cohort of 950 students in its new direct-to-college admission model which allows ample opportunities for innovation and new thinking around student success.
The College of Engineering has a rare and outstanding opportunity for a Director of Policy & Administration. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, this position provides leadership on administrative and analytical functions relating to academic policy development and implementation, and curriculum management for the College of Engineering.This position plays a central role in the development and implementation of academic policies that impacts 5,300+ undergraduate engineering students enrolled at the University, including 800 first-year students admitted through the new Direct to College admissions model and their placement into departments.
Our ideal candidate is a thoughtful and effective communicator who is able to work with diverse audiences including faculty, staff, and students to build consensus and develop solutions that work for all parties. This person should be able to leverage existing student data to identify gaps in the student experience and address them through new policies and programs. They are committed to developing meaningful policies and effective processes that demonstrate high-level thinking along with close attention to details. Finally and more importantly, they must be student-centered and understand and appreciate the impact that academic policy has on the success of UW engineering students

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline, and/or experience working in an engineering higher education setting.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
