The UW Operations units within Human Resources provide records management, employee relations and leave administration expertise in conjunction with functional Human Resources units for University clients. This includes administering policy, rules, laws, interpretation, reasonable accommodation, complaint resolution, leave administration, labor relations, performance management and corrective action, workplace violence assessment and response, training, developing service strategies, processes and programs that are responsive to the needs of administration, faculty, and staff to implement best human resources practices for employee relations, employment and related functions.
The mission of the Disability Services Office, part of Campus HR Operations and Services, is to provide leadership to the University community in achieving employment and educational, programmatic and physical access for individuals with disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Disability Accommodations:
Interpret and apply UW policies and procedures relating to reasonable accommodations. Provide advice and consultation in person, by phone and in writing.
Review and respond to requests for reasonable accommodation from members of the public. These requests include the Seattle campus, UW Bothell, UW Tacoma, UWMC and Harborview Medical Center. Members of the public served by DSO include:
-Attendees at sporting events, the arts, lectures/conferences, receptions, alumni/donor events, commencement
-Visitors to the Museums, Arboretum, UW forest, campus libraries, hospitals/clinics (UWMC, HMC, Roosevelt, Pioneer Square clinics, Speech & Hearing clinics, CHDD, Dental clinics, etc.)
-Job applicants
-Non-matriculated students
-Participants in research studies
-Prospective students including Convocation and Freshman Orientation
-On & Off Campus community resource events
Assist operational units’ HR Consultants with requests for reasonable accommodation from staff employees by receiving and distributing medical documentation and disability accommodation request forms to the appropriate University partners.
Collaborate with Facilities Services to review requests for disability-related facility improvements and document appropriate interactive process with requestors. The Disability Services Specialist also assists Facilities Services in prioritizing disability-related facility improvements.
Receives requests for disability parking and reviews medical documentation to assess for medical necessity.
Inventory Management/Fiscal Responsibilities:
Maintain, track, and replenish as needed equipment and furniture inventory that is loaned to users across campus and to locations beyond the Seattle campus such as UW Tacoma, UW Bothell, UWEO campus locations downtown, Bellevue College and other locations.
Secure services and equipment as needed for accommodations. Arrange, document, and track loans of equipment from DSO inventory.
Develop and run reports that track the number of academic and staff employees, students, and members of the public served; types of services provided; costs associated with services and accommodations, equipment or furniture purchases. Prepare other reports, as needed.
Direct the work of a student assistant.
Data management:
With the DSO staff and Manager, continually evaluate the effectives of the database and web-based technological solutions to ensure most effective use of technology in tracking and providing accommodation services.
Write clear support documentation and prepare training materials as needed on internal Disability Services Office data systems.
Training and Outreach:
Work collaboratively with representatives from areas within Human Resources and other administrative units such as Risk Management, Attorney General’s Office, University Complaint Investigation and Resolution Office (UCIRO), Environmental Health & Safety, and Disability Resources for Students.
Liaise with agencies, organizations and community groups for disability accommodation purposes, as needed.
Competitive candidates will possess experience and skills in problem solving, exercising independent judgement and decision-making; substantial tact, flexibility and discretion are necessary in dealing with clients under pressure of deadlines and/or politically sensitive issues. Inherent to success in this position is the demonstrated ability to maintain a consultative approach with major administrative or organizational heads, managers and supervisors when their perceived needs are in conflict with law, regulation or UW policies in order to achieve satisfactory resolution; excellent skills in negotiation and persuasion. This position is the front-line representative to staff, faculty and the public in providing accommodations and ensuring that the University is accessible to all.
REQUIREMENTS:
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
