The Bioengineering Core provides electronics support to multiple laboratories in the WaNPRC conducting research in neuroscience, immunology, and infectious diseases, and to the broader scientific community at the University. The Electronics Engineer will perform work to modify, diagnose, and repair existing equipment and to design and fabricate new devices for experimental measurement and control. The individual will work independently and under limited guidance, will apply standard electrical engineering principles and procedures to jobs in digital and analog electronics, data communication, and microprocessor programming, and will manage projects of moderate size and scope.
The WaNPRC is seeking someone who independently evaluates, selects and applies standard scientific or engineering procedures and techniques to assignments of moderate complexity, involving potentially conflicting design requirements, unavailability of materials or processes. This role is best filled by a person who seeks continual improvement of work practices from experience with moderate-sized projects; develops extensions to existing methods and protocols. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
The Electronics Engineer may work under limited guidance; receive broad specifications on assignment objectives and possible solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Trouble shoot digital and analog circuitry.
- Design and implement sophisticated and precise instruments for experimental measurements and control, including mixed analog/digital circuits operating at low and high power levels.
- Work and communicate with scientists and other WaNPRC staff to realize their instrumentation needs within technical and financial constraints.
- Design multi-layer circuit boards.
- Program microprocessors.
- Provide accurate cost estimates.
- Provide technical assistance and training.
- Monitor the work of interns or other staff in the completion of skilled tasks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Three or more years' experience in a related area or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Good communication skills
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
