UW Bothell has an outstanding opportunity for an Electronics Technician 2
RESPONSIBILITIES
o Assemble, install, calibrate, test, monitor, and repair sensors for wind, temperature, ozone, and other atmospheric and environmental parameters in research lab and at research sites.
o Monitor performance of environmental instruments for NSF-funded research project at Mt. Bachelor Observatory research site.
o Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and test, diagnose, adjust, and calibrate gas and aerosol sensors to appropriate standards.
o Use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, multimeters, logic probes, controllers, and calibrators to troubleshoot equipment malfunction(s) to system, board, or component level; use computer-aided diagnostic software and/or digital logic devices as needed to locate malfunction(s).
o Assist with other electronic, digital, and mechanical projects in the laboratory in preparation for fieldwork.
o Use hand and power tools such as drill presses, grinders, band saws, hand drills, and soldering guns to layout, fabricate, and test circuit(s).
o Analyze and monitor Mt. Bachelor Observatory research data streams.
o Monitor calibration processes online for instruments at Mt. Bachelor.
o Evaluate equipment specifications and make purchase recommendations.
o Communicate with technical support specialists about instrument repairs.
o Assist students and faculty with operating research instruments in the research lab and at research sites.
o Provide in-lab training for students and faculty in the safe and effective operation of instruments.
o Develop methods and procedures for proper operation of electronic equipment.
o Act as coordinator of research lab and research site space, controlling supplies and layout and use of space.
REQUIREMENTS
o One year of experience as an Electronics Technician 1 OR 3 years of experience as an Electronics Technician OR equivalent education/experience.
ADDITIONAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS
o Knowledge of and experience with modern electronics and environmental instrumentation.
o Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation and computer problems.
o Familiarity with setting up mechanical and electronic systems and equipment.
o Familiarity with PC-based software, such as spreadsheets, data acquisition, and data logging.
o Effective interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated by past success in a collaborative professional environment.
o Ability to work with a diverse constituency including professors, students, post-doctoral fellows, staff, and so on.
DESIRED
o Experience in a business or higher education setting.
o Working knowledge of UW budget and fiscal systems, including MyFD, Ariba, and Payment Net.
o Competency and understanding of basic accounting principles.
o Ability to creatively problem solve while incorporating various points of view while maintaining UW compliance.
o Intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel, Excel for analysis using pivot tables, and logical formulas.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
o Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs.
o Ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time.
o Ability to drive to and work remotely at research sites.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
