Financial Accounting has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Reporting Analyst. The Financial Reporting Analyst position is responsible for supporting the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, detail supporting schedules and footnotes for the UW's Financial Report prepared according to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), as well as detail schedules and disclosures for the Office of Financial Management's (OFM) Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

The Financial Reporting Analyst will participate in the analysis of financial results, as well as improvement of UW accounting processes. They will work independently and in partnership with the Manager of Financial Reporting and the Associate Controller, as well as in close collaboration with process partners across campus.

Responsibilities and Duties:
•This position requires the ability to communicate effectively to explain complex transactions and accounting issues.
•The position coordinates with external independent and state auditors to provide supporting documentation and explanation of results. The position also communicates with departments across the University regarding accounting issues and guidance, and regarding updates and changes to the accounting processes.
•Position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of University-wide reporting to the Audit Advisory Committee and external users of the University's financial information. The position is also responsible for supporting the proper implementation of accounting processes that will allow external state and independent auditors to conclude that the University's financial statements are fairly presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals.

  • Support and continually improve the accounting processes which contribute toward preparation of the GASB-basis UW Financial Report, along with the associated supporting schedules and footnotes.

  • Serve as a resource to the Financial Accounting department and various other departments across the University to support accounting processes, research and analyze data and trends, explain accounting treatments, interpret and implement new accounting requirements, etc.

  • Focus on continuous process improvement activities related to Financial Accounting and Reporting.

  • Support and continually improve the accounting processes which are responsible for complying with the accounting and reporting directives required by the OFM and which support the preparation of the CAFR. Duties may change to meet the needs of the department.

    Required:
    •Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree.
    •Minimum 5 years of work experience, full scope accounting, including use of automated systems and data analysis tools.
    •Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel including the ability to design and build from scratch relatively complex calculations, and the ability to build, format and document workbooks in a user-friendly, intuitive and logical manner.
    •Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and explain financial results, and to formulate and implement process improvements.
    •This position requires a collaborative, customer service attitude and strong focus on process improvement.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

    Desired:
    •Experience in public accounting.
    •CPA license or demonstrated progress toward CPA designation.
    •Proficiency with Microsoft Access.
