This is a TEMPORARY, FIXED DURATION position. It begins Upon Hire and is expected to run through June of 2020.

Under the direction of the supervisor and lead, perform journey-level electrical work in the maintenance, repair and construction of a wide variety of complex and sophisticated electrical systems up to 600 volts in over 220 University facilities.
Perform work, which includes, but is not limited to, inspection, alteration, repair and installation of:
• Retrofit and installation of all types of indoor and outdoor lighting systems for energy management, efficiency and seismic reinforcement;
• Circuitry (e.g., dedicated, branch, appliance, control and associated devices);
• All types of raceway systems (e.g., rigid, EMT, IMC, PVC, surface, flexible, sealtite and explosion proof);
• Panelboards, load centers, roll out and molded case circuit breakers;
• Transformers, switchgear, distribution and service equipment, safety and transfer switches;
• Ground fault systems.
Construct or modify electrical systems from blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
Develop cost estimates for installation and repairs.
Keep leads and supervisors informed of project status/work progress, needed materials and equipment.
Operate machinery such as fork-lifts, scissor-lifts, and high rangers.
Load and unload materials and supplies.
Operate vehicles such as UW vans and trucks to transport tools, equipment and personnel to various job sites.
May instruct semiskilled workers.
Communicate and coordinate with other Facilities Services shops and other business partners such as Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Engineering Services, Design Services, Capital Planning & Development and UW Information Technology to facilitate work.
Know and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job, including Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) instructions, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Comply with all UW and Facilities Services policies and procedures, Facilities Maintenance & Construction (FMC) protocols, i.e. Individual Accountability Protocols (IAP).
Support all management directives and the vision and values of FMC.
Participate in and follow through with Facilities Maintenance & Construction (FMC) process improvement initiatives, including Balanced Scorecard (BSC), incorporating metrics and Lean principles into internal work processes, and promoting employee engagement in continuous improvements and innovation.
Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.
Provide excellent customer service through effective, courteous and professional interactions with clients, colleagues and the campus community.

Requirements:
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician; OR full journey status as an electrician in a union; OR four years' applicable work experience.
• Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Knowledge of National Electrician Code (NEC) and all other local codes and ordinances.
• Demonstrated successful ability in taking direction, working well with others and as a member of a team.
• Demonstrated excellent effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license.
Desired:
Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations.
Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent products.
Experience with electrical installations in institutional, industrial and/or commercial environments.
Experience in troubleshooting and repairing control circuitry, such as lighting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and in utilizing a variety of testing equipment to monitor and maintain electrical systems and equipment.
Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Knowledge and experience with Predictive Maintenance Technologies which may include vibration analysis, infrared imaging thermography, data-log analysis, electric motor current analysis, variable frequency drive motor control troubleshooting and analysis and/or power quality analysis.
Experience with locating underground wires for street and pathway lighting.
Experience identifying broken wires and making repairs for direct burial splices.
Experience operating lift trucks on congested streets and sidewalks.
Experience with HID fixture operation and replacements.
Flagger certification
Conditions of Employment:
Washington State journey-level electrician's license and evidence of certification.
Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License or a license recognized as valid by the State of Washington.
Regular and predictable attendance is required. May be required to accept variable work shift.
Work may require access to confined spaces and heights using approved safety precautions. Must be able to work in a smoke-free environment. Ability to lift and move heavy material may be required.
Approved footwear must be provided at the employee’s expense and worn on the job.
Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job. Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job. Must participate in medical screening/monitoring (such as TB screening and proof of measles inoculation) required for work assignments in locations, including but not limited to, nonhuman primate areas, the Animal Research and Care Facility, and the University of Washington Medical Center.
