The UW's Department of Biology has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary Research Technologist 1.
This is a one-year full-time position to assist and perform research on plant immune recognition of pests and pathogens. The position will involve 20% administrative and 80% research work. Administrative responsibilities include lab management and organization of systems for ordering, safety, and experimental reproducibility. Research responsibilities include 1) Guided and independent experiments studying plant immune receptors, 2) Supervising undergraduate experiments and assistance, 3) Protocol optimization, 4) Analyzing and presenting data. Experiments will involve work with DNA/RNA, protein, small molecule biochemistry, and comparative genomics. Independence will be determined by previous experience.
Bachelors of Science in Biology or related field is required, or two years working experience as a Laboratory Technician 2. One full year or more of previous laboratory experience is required; examples include undergraduate research projects, internships, and previous technician work. Comfort with routine laboratory procedures is a requirement for success; for example, buffer preparation, pipetting, DNA/RNA/protein electrophoresis, E.coli recombinant DNA procedures, and basic experimental design.
Requirements:
Two years experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.

Training or experience within a specific discipline will be required to meet the unique requirements of individual positions.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired Skills:
o Experience with next-gen molecular cloning, high-throughput sequencing, and/or protein biochemistry
o Plant growth and care, especially Arabidopsis and tobacco
o Bioinformatics experience e.g. R, Python, Biopython.
