Housing and Food Services (HFS) is pleased to announce an opening for a Food Service Worker 2-Roundsman for our Conibear location.
HFS provides on-campus housing and dining to over 7,800 student residents each year. We employ over 1,200 classified, professional staff and student staff members who work throughout HFS, providing residential and dining services to the campus. Key Responsibilities:
Position Purpose
The Roundsman position will work varying schedules between our Conibear and Bay Laurel Catering locations, participating in the culinary planning and work throughout all stations, supporting preparation, assembly and service of a variety of cuisines. Some or all of the cooking may be in a venue where facets of the work are visible and may include interaction with guests.
Specific scheduling needs are listed at the end of this posting.
Description of Duties
• Prepare menu items including proteins, vegetables, starches, sauces and baked items using scratch ingredients
• Marinate, grill and slice proteins
• Perform display cooking
• Review recipes and order lists and consult with Chefs on the tasks for the day
• Check par levels and ensure that station is properly stocked
• Organize work to meet daily production goals and service needs
• Train and direct food service staff
• Monitor prepared foods for compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including taking and recording food temperatures before the food leaves the production area
• Participate in cleaning and sanitizing of the kitchen’s tables and equipment
• Ensure that all foods used for the meal are properly wrapped, dated, labeled and stored before the close of the shift
• Work with other staff to ensure that all items in walk-in and in other storage areas are properly labeled and rotated correctly
• Maintain records of foods produced, foods wasted, and any recipe adjustments for the manager
• Inspect food service equipment to determine proper care, use and operation; report malfunctions to the supervisor
• Ensure that security and safety requirements are met; follow up with staff and supervisor on any issues
• Perform related duties as requested
• Print worksheets from CBORD FSS system, including order guides, production sheets, recipes and inventory tally sheets.
• Use recipes and production sheets from CBORD FSS to execute food preparation. Provide direction to kitchen staff for following recipes and standard production methods identified in these worksheets.
• Take inventory counts using tally sheets from CBORD FSS system.
• May be responsible for performing data input into CBORD FSS system, including orders and transfers. Submit completed worksheets to mangers office or office staff for entry into the CBORD FSS system.
Minimum Qualifications:
• One year of experience in high-volume or large-batch food preparation and service or one year as a Food Service Worker; or equivalent education/experience
• Knowledge of production kitchen equipment and experience preparing a wide variety of cuisines from scratch using a variety of cooking techniques.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.
Specific Position Requirements
• Must be willing and able to work flexible schedule, including mornings, days, evenings and weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
• Rotation among various shifts will be required, in order to participate in, observe and monitor production.
Possesses experience that demonstrates
• Ability to apply knowledge of processes involved, production methods, and products to the nuances of everyday operation
• Ability to explain culinary and cooking techniques to entry level staff with little knowledge of food service
• Success serving as a head cook or assistant cook in a large kitchen
• Success working in environments where there is continuous interaction with diverse guests and staff throughout the work shift, up to 7.5 hours a day.
• Ability to multi-task, where interaction with staff and cooking occur simultaneously
• Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality based on a work schedule where hours of work will vary based on business needs
• Ability to use the Internet, email, and familiarity with basic computer applications

• Completion of culinary degree or certificate program
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Condition of Employment:
• A satisfactory outcome from the reference check process and education verification.
This position will work a variable schedule. The first two months 5am to 1:30pm, Monday-Friday at our Conibear location. Second assignment will be with Bay Laurel Catering working a variable schedule to meet our catering needs which will include days, evenings and weekends.
The salary range is $2776 to $3266 per month + benefits.
