The College of the Environment’s Pack Forest seeks a Temporary, Hourly Gardener 1 to mow lawns, maintain garden beds, weed, rake, mulch, edge, irrigate, fertilize, lawns. The employee will also clean, service and maintain tools and equipment, including power equipment; may operate power and motorized equipment such as small trucks, lawn mowers, edgers, chain saws, weed trimmers, backpack blowers and sweepers; May assist in planting seed, sod, bulbs, shrubs, and trees; assist in transplanting seedlings or other nursery stock; May apply pesticides and herbicides to greenery and plant material under supervision; Remove debris, leaves, brush, snow and ice from areas such as walks, stairs, roads, ramps and parking facilities; Assist in the installation and repair of lawn sprinkler system components. Other related duties as assigned.
This position will report to the Director of the Center of Sustainable Forestry at Pack Forest for work priorities. The Forest Manager will directly supervise work, work schedule, and approve hours. The position requires teamwork to coordinate grounds maintenance in a way which does not interfere with students and conference center programs.
Requirements:
• Ability to work outdoors, work with power tools and hand tools; lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to ride a lawnmower for extended periods of time.
• Demonstrated experience in a similar position or related work.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience with riding lawnmowers and equipment maintenance.
• Experience in caring for native plants of the Pacific Northwest.
• Experience spraying herbicides.
