The Madison Clinic (a primary care clinic serving patients living with HIV or at high risk of acquiring HIV) has an outstanding opportunity for a Full-Time Health Education Coordinator. This position will work to provide patient and staff education, coordinate community involvement in Madison Clinic, and partner with other organizations to increase outreach, testing, and community education. This fully grant funded position provides HIV and health education, leads faculty and staff education, coordinates Madison's Community Advisory Board (CAB) and Youth Intervention, collaborates with Public Health King County to relink HIV positive patients to care, and provides HIV rapid testing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Education
- Provides one-on-one education to patients about HIV, ARVs, PrEP, and other related issues for new and returning Madison patients;
- Provides risk reduction counseling (e.g. safer sex education and safer needle use) to patients;
- Maintains education materials for patients;
- Coordinates the initiation, planning, marketing, design, and management of educational materials, resources, and special events;
- Researches, gathers, and (when needed) develops educational materials and handouts.
Faculty and Staff Education
- Provides new clinic staff with education about HIV and local epidemiology of the virus;
- Contributes to the planning and implementation of staff retreats;
- Coordinates resident orientations, training opportunities for staff (e.g. breakfast and learns), and provider-room educational slide series;
- Assists with coordination of the regional AIDS Clinical Conference (ACC), which helps to educate local health care providers on current HIV research;
- Coordinates post-event evaluations and reports (e.g. resident orientation evaluation survey result summary).
CAB and Youth Intervention
- Coordinates and facilitates the Madison Community Advisory Board (CAB);
- Coordinates the Madison HIV-positive youth intervention (including coordinating with Seattle Children’s Hospital to transition young adults into care and supporting the Youth Support Group, possibly in collaboration with other agencies);
- Coordinates post-event evaluations and reports.
Outreach and Events
- Coordinates, organizes, and/or participates in various community events providing HIV education and/or rapid testing;
- Collaborates with Public Health King County to reach persons who fail to link to HIV care within 3 months of diagnosis or to reach patients who fall out of care;
- Provides direct outreach to patients identified as needing additional outreach by providers or social workers; and
- Provides Clinic Tours to various stakeholders who would like to learn about Madison.
New Patient Intakes and Rapid Testing
- Collaborates with the Madison Patient Coordinator to intake new patients; and
- Coordinates HIV rapid testing and counseling of patients seeking these services in clinic.

2 years of experience working with vulnerable populations as a member of an interdisciplinary team
DESIRED:
Experience working with patients living with HIV, the LGBTQ community, and other marginalized populations such as patients experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders or mental illness.
Familiar with LGBTQ community in Seattle.
Outgoing and personable.
Comfortable with structuring own work and setting priorities.
Familiarly with Epic or other EMR.
Bilingual in Spanish and English.
General knowledge of HIV transmission, progression, medical care, antiretroviral therapy and local social services.
