The UWMC Central Supplies Processing Department (CSPD) has multiple openings for HOSPITAL CENTRAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN 1 (full time, varying shifts). Under general supervision, the person in this position will receive, pick up, decontaminate, assemble, peel pack, and sterilize following established procedures.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pick up and transport soiled instruments, case carts, basins, respiratory items and patient equipment from all patient care areas to the decontamination area for reprocessing.
- Assemble and set up patient equipment such as IV pumps, vacuum regulators (wall suction), chest pumps, hyper/hypothermia units; test and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
- Load and operate semi-automatic cart washer to clean case carts, utility carts, patient chairs, etc.
- Perform, analyze, and document sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicators; take appropriate action for abnormal results.
- Load autoclave carts and sterilize surgical instrument sets and respiratory equipment, through terminal sterilization using either steam or sterrad sterilization.
- Inventory shelf level of processed items; rotate trays and products to accommodate inventory movement before shelf-life expiration dates; remove outdated trays and products from shelves.
- Load and unload linen carts for steam sterilization.
- Unload autoclave carts and place sterile instruments and linens in proper location in case cart area.
- Decontaminate all soiled instruments according to Procedure and Policy standard.
- Inspect, test, and assemble, package based on the guidelines.
- Verify correct sterilization cycles by document with signature on the sterilizer printout.
- Scan sterile peel pack and trays and stock to shelf.
- Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience as a Hospital Central Service Technician Trainee or equivalent or equivalent education/experience.
Desired skill:
IAHCSMM certification
