The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP) in the Department of Health Services, School of Public Health is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer. Reporting to the E-learning Manager, the Instructional Designer is responsible for developing online trainings; supporting existing online, in-person, and hybrid trainings; and maintaining web-based learning resources to meet the diverse public health education/training needs in the Northwest region. This position requires strong writing skills, a background in distance education, design and learning technologies, and knowledge of adult learning styles.
The Instructional Designer will work with content experts to assess the learning outcomes, consider the needs of the target audience, evaluate the distance learning technologies available to reach the desired outcomes, design and build relevant instructional materials, and support faculty through the course development process. Additionally, this position is responsible for monitoring and expediting the production process, while assuring the readability, coherence, accuracy, and conformity to standards of style and quality in the course materials.
Housed in the UW School of Public Health, the Department of Health Services is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department's common cause.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Work as a team member with NWCPHP faculty, staff, and partners to define educational needs and analyze distance learning options
•Training Development (total 80%):?Project management of online training development
?Work directly with content experts to design new online trainings and to convert existing curricula to appropriate formats, may involve researching and writing new content and designing interactive elements
?Review existing content (e.g., slides, written materials) and provide feedback from an instructional design and adult learning viewpoint
?Coordinate with the E-Learning Manager and the Graphics and E-Learning Designer in the production process for online learning activities and products (to include audio recording and editing, video recording and editing, editing html, using Storyline)
•Support trainings and activities in our LMS and web conferencing system by moderating webinars, uploading course materials, and providing some administrative course support for the E-Learning Manager
•Other duties as required to meet the education and training goals of the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice

Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in instructional design or related field
•Three years of professional experience in instructional design for adult online audiences
•Demonstrable experience in the design, development, and deployment of online learning materials
•An understanding of the learning styles of adult learners
•Experience with multimedia and instructional software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, audio editing software, video editing software
•Excellent writing, editing, and documentation skills
•Experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
•Ability to effectively manage multiple projects that involve teams
•Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of personalities effectively
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired Qualifications:
•Experience using Adobe InDesign and Articulate Storyline
•Experience with Moodle LMS
•Public health background
