The UWMC Maternal and Infant Care Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (50%) MEDICAL ASSISTANT. The medical assistant (MA) will support high-risk obstetric providers in providing high-level patient care. The clinic has an interdisciplinary care team consisting of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Attendings, nurses, medical assistants, nutritionists, social workers, ultrasonographers, genetic counselors, PCCs, and PSSs. The Maternal Infant Care Clinic is fast paced and the medical assistant is integral to the overall functioning of the clinic. MA’s monitor and manage the flow of patients through the various provider sessions with which they work and beforehand prepare the chart and gather the needed supplies for the visit. When rooming patients, they prepare them for possible treatments, verify with them their reason for visit, and update medications. The MA’s are the first contact with the patient, establishing trust with them by offering interventions to make them feel more comfortable. They conduct basic diagnostic tests (such as peak flow, oxygen saturation, glucose monitoring) and assist providers in various procedures (such as pap, IUD placement, Implanon placement, CVS, amniocentesis and ultrasound). They collect lab specimens and assure delivery of them to the lab. They are also involved in high-level disinfectant procedures of US probes and equipment. They communicate with providers and team members about the patients' clinical condition, including results of diagnostic tests and symptomatology, assures prompt and appropriate care provision. They provide basic patient education and document both their teaching and care per clinic protocol. In addition, MAs perform clerical and reception duties, including stocking, ordering, scheduling patients and performing administrative duties as required by clinic needs.

REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;
OR
equivalent education/experience.
Legal Requirement:
Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or MAC-Interim with plans to achieve this designation during the 6 month probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.
