University of Washington Medical Center's Urology Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a 100% Full-Time MEDICAL ASSISTANT.
Medical Assistants perform duties to assist health care professionals in the examination and treatment of patients, including: preparing the patient and the environment for treatment; meeting the communication needs of patients and family; conducting basic diagnostic tests; providing patient care coordination, patient education and clerical / reception functions. Communicates with physicians and team members about patient’s clinical condition, including symptoms and results of diagnostic tests. Completes follow-up as directed by provider. As a member of the health care team, the Medical Assistant helps to create a culture of professional excellence and helps to maintain an environment that respects cultural, economic, ethnic and lifestyle differences of patients and staff. General supervision is provided by the manager or designee. Physicians, health care specialists, and RNs provide immediate supervision of services performed by Medical Assistants under provider’s orders for specific patients.
Job Duties & Performance Standards:
CLINIC FLOW
•Monitors and manages the flow of patients in the clinic throughout the day.
•Demonstrates the ability to be organized and effectively prioritizes work tasks for the needs of the clinic.
Patient Care Procedures
•Performs direct patient care procedures according to their level of education, certification, and clinic protocol.
•Provides skilled assistance to providers performing patient care procedures in the clinic.
•Maintains sterile technique during treatments and special procedures as indicated.
PATIENT SPECIFIC CARE
•Provides accurate, appropriate, and culturally sensitive education to clinic patients.
•Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
PATIENT CARE - SAFETY
•Maintains infection control standards including hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective attire.
•Responds appropriately to patients in physical distress or emergency situations.
COORDINATION OF CARE
•Assists providers and clinic RNs in the maintenance of clinic processes to ensure timely follow-up on reported test results.
•Assists with coordination of care including clarifying patient follow-up and scheduling patient appointments.
DOCUMENTATION
•Accurately and thoroughly documents provision of patient care in a timely manner.
•Maintains, completes and submits required clinic reports and audits in a timely manner.
GENERAL CLINIC DUTIES
•Performs duties other support staff as required by clinic needs.
•Answers telephone calls in a professional manner and directs calls appropriately.
•Responds to patient issues and refers issues as appropriate.
BILLING PRACTICES
•Demonstrates understanding of billing practices.
•Performs other related duties as required.
JOB-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
•Clean scopes as directed to ensure availability for procedures.
•Ensure exam rooms are properly stocked with equipment and supplies.
•Accurately document in the electronic medical record.
•Other duties as assigned.

Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.
