The Mental Health Clinic at Hall Health has an outstanding opportunity for a Mental Health Therapist.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist will provide outpatient mental health services to undergraduate, graduate and professional school students. This position will also consult with and provide support to other mental health and medical care providers at Hall Health Center, our campus partners, UW faculty and staff, and student groups within the UW community.
A strong candidate will demonstrate the ability to relate empathically, effectively, and consistently with a diverse student population and a commitment to working collaboratively within a team-based approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is designated as one that devotes 65% of work time to provision of direct clinical services (i.e., face-to-face time with clients) and 35% of work time on administrative tasks (e.g., charting, meetings, care coordination).
This position will fulfill the following clinical roles:
Counseling/Psychotherapy
• Provide individual psychotherapy within a short-term or brief treatment model
• Develop and lead therapy groups
Triage and Brief Intervention
• Provide brief assessment and therapeutic support for students seeking mental health care
• Assist students with connecting with other on- and off-campus resources
Crisis Intervention and Support
• Provide crisis services, including risk assessments, safety planning, and brief stabilization interventions to UW students during acute crisis episodes
Outreach and Consultation
• Provide professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges
• Provide educational outreach presentations to student groups, faculty and staff as requested
Please note: This position is one that performs an essential function; therefore, incumbent should make every effort to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency condition.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s or doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, or social work and eligible for licensure in WA State as LMHC, LICSW, LMFT or licensed psychologist
• If not currently licensed to practice independently in Washington State, please explain how you meet eligibility criteria for one of the Washington licenses listed above
• Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience (can include internship, pre-licensure hours) in direct clinical practice including psychotherapy and crisis intervention
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
• Experience working with communities of color and other marginalized groups
• Competence in providing interventions for substance use disorders, eating disorders, and/or somatically-informed trauma therapy
• Ability to provide clinical services in multiple languages
