UW-IT has an outstanding full-time opportunity for a Network Engineer in our Network Design and Architecture (NDA) team.
This position designs and leads evaluations of complex network and telecommunications technologies. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for looking to the future of network architecture to ensure that UW and its partners and affiliates deploy efficient as well as leading-edge network constructs in support of research, teaching, learning and medicine. These services are foundational to the missions of the University of Washington and our networking partners.
The NDA team is a key part of the IT Infrastructure division of UW-IT, supporting both wired and wireless networks. We work on networks of varying scales from campus to international - including three University of Washington campuses with associated labs and facilities throughout the region; UW Medicine (3 hospitals and over a dozen clinics across the state); the Washington State K20 Education Network (connecting ~400 school districts); the Pacific Northwest Gigapop, the regional point of presence for research & education networking; the Pacific Wave international R&E peering facility; and the C3 optical ring around Lake Washington. In addition to supporting a variety of network scales, we also design, deploy, and operate partner-owned fiber, DWDM, ethernet services, and third-party circuits.
This position will lead the design and architecture of the Pacific Northwest Gigapop’s evolving network. The Pacific Northwest Gigapop is a nonprofit corporation serving research and education organizations throughout the Pacific Rim; providing access to next-generation internet services and technologies including Cloud providers, exclusive R&D testbeds where tomorrow’s internet technologies are being developed, and to research and education networks and research organizations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, the Pacific Rim, and Europe. This position will lead and support network development and implementation with PNWGP’s partners across the nation and around the world.
