UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a DAY SHIFT, FULL TIME, OPERATING ROOM TECHNICIAN. The Operating Room Technician is responsible for facilitating assigned surgical procedures through the assembly of instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Surgical Technologist functions competently and independently within multiple specialty areas, under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares the surgical suite, assures suite is clean and bed is properly oriented, stocks suite with necessary instrumentation, supplies and equipment, based on surgeon’s preference card information, checks that equipment is in good working order
Facilitates efficient room turnover, breaks-down suite after procedure; assists with cleaning area as needed
Assists with the preparation, proper positioning, and draping of the patient, facilitates or assists with patient transportation when needed
Serves in the scrub role during assigned procedure, anticipates the surgeon’s need for supplies and instrumentation; passes needed items to operating team, demonstrates knowledge of proper use of supplies, equipment, and instruments for each surgical procedure
Maintains surgical instruments, removes and puts away unused supplies and equipment, tracks equipment used in cases, following surgical count procedures, cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instruments
Monitors supply levels; determines when supplies need to be ordered; obtains approval for supply orders from manager
Coordinates and collaborates effectively with other members of a multi-disciplinary surgical team, provides constructive feedback and supports team-based care
Assists at nurses’ station, including performing secretarial duties as needed
Utilizes sterile/aseptic technique and abides by AORN standards and UWMC protocols and standards, demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of infection control plans, surgical count, medication safety, safe lifting techniques, transfer devices, etc

High school graduate or GED
Graduate of a surgical technology school, military training, or a minimum of one year equivalent job training
Registration from Washington State
BLS certification
DESIRED
Six months experience as a Surgical Technologist in a hospital operating room or child birth center, preferred.
