RETAIL OPTOMETRY AT UW MEDICINE EYE INSTITUTE has an outstanding opportunity for a TEMPORARY/HOURLY OPTICIAN LICENSED-DISPENSING. Under general supervision, the Licensed Dispensing Optician coordinates the services provided at HMC’s Eyes on James Optical shop. Services include: selling, fitting, dispensing, measuring, and adjusting eyeglasses and optical devices in accordance with written prescriptions. The dispensing optician will also be responsible for ensuring a high level of customer service to all clientele and for participating in departmental and divisional activities to support quality improvement.
Customer Service Duties:
- Promote and model an atmosphere of respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of each person encountered in the optical shop.
- Greet all customers and families with a smile; communicate pleasantly and in a manner that optimizes service excellence.
- Ensure positive and professional first impression of the optical shop
- Maintain pleasant atmosphere of waiting area.
- Coordinate clerical activities for dispensing optical devices including verifying any sponsored coverage.
- Triage incoming calls appropriately to optometrist, shop, or Eye Institute as needed.
- Communicate various types of information to customers, optometrist, and third-party payers as needed.
- Demonstrate proactive, professional communication across and within department to facilitate smooth workflow, and to ensure department is positively represented throughout the organization.
- May support scheduling of optometry patients with physician in the shop
- May have oversight of cashiering functions and perform cashiering duties.
Patient Care Duties:
- Support customer with appropriate facial measurements for eyeglass selection, frame fitting, and customer selection.
- Perform repairs, adjustments, and delivery of eyewear.
- Coordinate appropriate clerical work for ordering/sending optical devices to the eye lab for fabrication, ensuring accuracy.
- Ensure orders are sent out in a timely fashion and ensure accuracy of returned orders.
- Notify customers that orders have arrived for pick-up.
- Provide customer support to clients when orders are picked up.
- May provide contact lens fitting support as directed by the optometrist
- Provide instructions to customers on contact lenses application and care.
Retail Duties:
- Work with contracted vendors and labs to purchase supplies and inventory.
- Ensure profitability of the retail area by selecting appropriate product mix and pricing.
- Educate customers on available upgrades, options, and benefits of additional products.
- Perform housekeeping duties as needed including maintaining towers, counters, mirrors, and displays.
- Open and close retail shop in accordance with HMC policies and procedures
- Prepare daily sales close-out reports according to HMC policies and procedures.
- Ensure office supply levels meet shop needs
- Act as an initial point of contact for customer complaints for retail shop issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
