The UW Libraries has an outstanding opportunity for an Oral History Project Manager.

This one year, full-time position will coordinate and manage all aspects of a digital oral history project that documents the founding, growth, and impact of the University of Washington Tacoma campus. This is a professional level position that will have substantial roll in developing, coordinating, and managing the campus oral history project. As a part of this project, it will develop a public site that shares the history and development of the campus and engages audiences in the campus story. Position may require some travel in the Puget Sound region or possibly in the West Coast to meet interviewees and conduct oral history interviews.

Duties & Responsibilities
Plans, coordinates, tracks, and manages progress of the “UW Tacoma Founding Stories” oral history project, including:
  • Coordinates the communication and outreach to potential interviewees;
  • Managing the production and processing of oral histories interviews;
  • Establishing workflows and standards for oral history project;
  • Promoting project through Library’s social media channels; and
  • Designing public-facing site for oral history project.

    Conducts oral history interviews with faculty, alumni, community leaders, and others designated people.

    Performs and oversees the cataloging, description, and access to oral histories.

    Does background research on individuals to prepare for interviews and learn institutional history.

    Tracks, documents, and may perform selective digitization (as resources are available) of materials connected to campus history. Coordinates the work graduate and undergraduate students assisting with processing and transcription of oral history interviews .

    Understands and abides by the Libraries Personal Communication Responsibilities. Communicates appropriately, effectively and positively. Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in Libraries and unit meetings, activities and events. Other duties as assigned

    Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in History, Communication, Informatics or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • One year experience with digital oral history projects, and knowledge of all aspects of digital oral history projects.
  • Knowledge of oral history best practices and metadata standards for making oral histories accessible online.
  • Experience with preparing digital materials for library digital platforms (such as ContentDM, Omeka, etc.) or other online sites.
  • Expertise with audio and/or video production and associated software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to write professionally and use social media for public audiences.

    Desired
  • Experience or coursework in metadata and/or descriptive cataloging.
  • Experience or coursework in managing and develop oral history and digital production.
  • Background knowledge on the history of Tacoma, the University of Washington, and higher education in Washington state.
  • Experience working with and interviewing individuals from diverse backgrounds.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
