Student and Academic Services (SAS) in the Office of the Dean works to enhance the experience for students in the UW School of Public Health by fostering a vibrant school community and providing the support and resources necessary for success. This mission is accomplished through co-curricular programming that complements students’ academics and facilitates their involvement in research and service. Areas of activity include policy development and student advocacy, student workshops and academic support, community service programs, SPH-level fellowships and scholarships, and experiential learning opportunities including the MPH applied practice experience. Serving as a central resource, SAS supplements and reinforces the work of the departments and the community of practitioners that is their student services staff. The office provides recruitment support and acts as a gateway for prospective students through print materials, a web presence, and one-on-one advising that connects them directly with program offices. Working closely with student groups, SAS staff advice and foster student leadership and engagement.

The Office of the Dean in the School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking a full-time, Outreach & Scholarships Manager, under the direction of the Director of Program Operations for Student and Academic Services.

The position is responsible for managing a range of student service projects. They include: SPH and Health Sciences (HS)-level fellowships, scholarships, and student support, large-scale school-wide, student related events such as New Student Orientation; oversees advising of prospective graduate students; development and production of recruitment materials used by SAS and departmental recruiters; multicultural outreach and pipeline development projects. This position contributes to the overall function and service provided by Student and Academic Services. Areas of activity include: serving as a liaison to related campus committees and initiatives, cross-train on office functions to ensure continuity of service to students.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Funding and Opportunities :
•Develop and manage all aspects of award selection and funds dissemination for SPH and HS level awards. Track and apply best practices to streamline award application, selection and processing.
•Manage a program of funding workshops for students (Funding Your Education, Writing and Effective Research Proposal, etc.)
•Oversee all aspects of nomination and selection of UW, SPH, and national student awards and honors including the Omenn Award.
•Develop and maintain the “Student Funding” webpage(s) and other systems for disseminating funding opportunities to current and incoming students.
•Track awards handled by Student and Academic Services as well as annual UW Awards relevant to the SPH and prepare and disseminate quarterly summaries on such activity.

Outreach, and Advising
•Conduct advising sessions with prospective students in person and via telephone or email to identify which program(s) are a fit for their educational goals and interests.
•Manage program of prospective student marketing and outreach communications including SPH website, SPH academic catalog (shared with Academic Affairs), SPH Brochure, departmental one-pagers, SPH promotional swag, and other recruitment materials (Go-kits, tablecloths, pull-up banners, exhibitory platforms, etc.) targeted to underrepresented students.
•Oversee maintenance of public and internal calendars of recruitment events and processes for dissemination of prospective student lead retrieval data for the School.
•Provide overall management of planning, delivery, and post-event evaluation of New Student Orientation (September) and Prospective Graduate Student Visit Days (March and April).
•Represent the School at recruitment events, as needed.
•Serve as the primary liaison with GO-MAP and maintain relationships with relevant advising groups on campus.
•Compile and analyze statistics related to recruitment and retention, with a focus on URM recruitment.
•Support pipeline initiatives such as SHPEP through coordination with PI and other SPH faculty and staff.

Other Student and Academic Services Programming and Administration (30%)
•In conjunction with the Director of Student and Academic Services generate and carry out project proposals and opportunities to enhance the experience of prospective and current SPH students.
•Gather and analyze data relevant to lead areas as needed for reporting and program assessment and refinement.
•Contribute to planning and presentation of the SPH Graduation Celebration.
•Manage and contribute to other projects as appropriate.
•Serve as backup coordinator for Academic Assistance funding.
•Serve as a backup Student Conduct Hearing Officer as needed.

Lead Responsibilities: 

Under the direction of the Director of Student and Academic Services, this position manages student funding programs including a number of School-level fellowships and scholarships and a tutoring program. The position manages prospective student advising and recruitment, oversees the production and use of marketing materials and represents SPH graduate programs at recruitment events. Other responsibilities include advising the Student Public Health Association and overseeing coordination of all aspects related to the planning and production of Prospective Graduate Student Visits Days, Graduate Orientation, and the SPH Graduation Celebration. The position contributes to general advising for all students in the School and shares in the coordination and delivery of SAS programs and activities broadly.

REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education or related field plus 3 years of experience working with graduate and/or undergraduate students.
•Knowledge of student development and experience in student advising and/or recruiting.
•A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of work.
•Strong desire to mentor students and commitment to working effectively with a diverse student body.
•Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
•Demonstrated ability in handling detailed and demanding work with reliability, accuracy and composure.
•Experience developing, implementing, and documenting programs, processes and administrative systems.
•Independent problem-solving and decision-making skills along with the ability to prioritize many competing projects and tasks.
•Familiarity with the field of Public Health.
•Washington State driver’s license.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

•Ability to work effectively across multiple levels of a large, highly structured organization.
•Familiarity with UW systems including Catalyst, Canvas, and Prezi.
