The UWMC 7SA - Transplant Unit has an outstanding opportunity for a PART-TIME PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 1-TRAINEE OR PSS 2 (80%, Day Shifts). The Patient Services Specialist 1-Trainee or PSS 2 provides patient-focused care through use of customer service strategies and communicates effectively with medical staff, patients, visitors, and other medical center departments to facilitate patient care. The PSS coordinates unit activities by acting as the communications center for the nursing unit.
The PSS also is responsible for a wide spectrum of clerical duties, which include:
- Handle all unit paperwork (i.e., chart maintenance and patient information, etc.)
- Triage telephone calls
- Access and enter information in computer programs
- Complete appropriate requisitions, schedule tests and appointments as ordered, and meet any necessary deadlines for service or patient
- Ensure completeness of charge documents
- Initiate pages for staff and notify appropriate staff when page/call returned; use paging systems effectively
- Receive and welcome newly admitted patients, families, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Access and utilize many computer functions effectively required for patient billing and data entry where applicable
- Be accountable for effective age-appropriate communication with healthcare team and patient/family members
- Listen to others' concerns and communicate in a constructive manner
- Consistently demonstrate productive and timely communication with charge nurses, nursing staff, peers, patients, physicians, volunteers, and other medical center departments and ancillary services
- Maintain patient and staff confidentiality
- Accurately communicate pertinent patient information affecting patient care outcomes to appropriate caregiver
- Ensure safe and orderly environment
- Maintain a neat and organized workstation
- Assist with keeping unit organized; organize waiting area as needed
- Assist with ordering office supplies
- Assist with and reconcile supplies as needed
- Initiate process for removal of defective clinical equipment
- Partner in the orientation and training of professional and support staff, nursing, medical students, and other PSS's.
- These responsibilities are often carried out simultaneously with constant interruption
PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 1-TRAINEE REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience.
PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 2 REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience.
