The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Pharmacy team provides extensive pharmaceutical care to inpatient and ambulatory patients. In addition to direct care, pharmacists participate in drug therapy consults, conduct clinical research protocols, provide patient/family/staff education, and precept pharmacy students and residents. SCCA combines the adult and pediatric oncology patient care services of three world-renowned cancer care institutions Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's, and UW Medicine.

SCCA has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME PHARMACIST 3 – ANTIMICROBIAL STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM. The Pharmacist 3 will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Antimicrobial Stewardship  Program (ASP), with a focus on oncology and bone marrow transplant patients at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). The ASP program assists providers with antimicrobial dosing and selection, develops guidelines, and leads interventions and educational programs to promote the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents.   

The candidate for this Pharmacist 3 position must have a strong background in infectious diseases (ID) and prior experience in ID or ASP is required. Completion of a residency or fellowship in infectious diseases is preferred. The ASP pharmacist will join the SCCA ASP team consisting of an infectious disease physician, Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs), and an outpatient ASP pharmacist. The pharmacist will participate in developing evidence-based antimicrobial treatment and monitoring plans to optimize safety and efficiency, while ensuring cost-effective care and will round with the inpatient SCCA ID team. Other responsibilities include guideline and broader program development, antimicrobial evaluation and monitoring, provider and staff education, and participation in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Additional opportunities include clinical research, quality improvement projects, and precepting residents and students. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and promote a collaborative culture while engaging with frontline clinicians.


• Evaluate targeted antimicrobials on daily basis and work closely with the oncology teams to ensure the most appropriate and timely antimicrobial therapy.
• Attend microbiology rounds and follow up on identified issues in collaboration with SCCA ID attending, SCCA ID APPs and ID fellow.
• Round with the inpatient SCCA ID team on a regular basis. 
• Facilitate transition of selected patients to ambulatory antimicrobial therapy as needed.
• Work within the SCCA ASP team to formulate, revise and implement evidence based institutional guidelines for appropriate use of antimicrobials. 
• Improve antimicrobial prescribing practices through education of providers and staff.
• Evaluate trends of antimicrobial resistance in oncology patients in collaboration with the microbiology department.
• Participate in medication utilization reviews (MUEs) and quality improvement projects. 
• Collaborate with Infection Control as needed. 
• Other duties as assigned.

• Primary preceptorship of PharmD candidates, pharmacy practice and specialty residents.
• Education of providers, staff and patients. Didactic teaching of PharmD candidates at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. 
• Participate in scholarly activity (e.g. clinical research, publication of clinical cases or reviews).
• Attend and participate in local, regional and national conferences and educational meetings. 

• Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to effectively use computerization for efficient operations
• Knowledge and ability to conceptualize, plan and implement new technologies, programs and services REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience in pharmacy practice.  Months spent in the completion of an American Society of Health System Pharmacists accredited residency training program may substitute month-for-month for the experience.
