UWMC Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME PHARMACY TECHNICIAN 2 – PRIOR AUTHORIZATION CENTER (Day Shifts). The Pharmacy Technician 2 will perform specialized, technical pharmacy tasks related to the management of prior authorization for patients served by the UWMC Ambulatory Clinics, and will act as a liaison between the clinic teams and the pharmacy staff to ensure effective communication regarding prior authorization issues. All activities will be performed under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Responsibilities:
• Troubleshoot technical questions related to specialized area. Serve as a resource to nursing, pharmacy and medical staff for policies and procedures. Facilitate maintaining positive rapport between pharmacy and clinic staff.
• Maintain all quality assurance documentation required for specialized duties.
• Review and screen new patients at intake to determine if patient has adequate prescription coverage. Refer appropriate patients to financial counseling for coverage or charity application.
• Function as primary third party billing resource for UWMC Ambulatory Clinics.
• Contact Department of Health and caseworkers and patients with regard to missing documents for insurance plans.
• Troubleshoot and resolve billing rejections. Submit prior authorization requests, follow up on submitted prior authorization requests and submit claims with approvals as appropriate.
• Provide insurance formulary assistance to UWMC clinics through evaluating necessity of prior authorization and identification of formulary alternatives.
• Contact payers for lost medication overrides, replacement and vacation override approvals.
• Identify patients who may qualify for patient medication assistance programs or copay assistance.
• Complete standard documentation of results of prior authorization requests and formulary evaluations in electronic medical record.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with clinic and pharmacy staff to maintain effective communication regarding prior authorization issues.
• Educate pharmacy and clinic staff about prior authorization center policies and procedures as needed.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of prior authorization center policy and procedures.
• Assure that policies and procedures are followed in coordination with the Billing Operations Specialists, Leads, Manager and Director.
• Generate reports at the request of the Manager or Director.
• Assure compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations.
• Know and follow all Pharmacy department policies and procedures.
• Train pharmacy assistants, technicians, students and interns on specialized job duties as assigned.
• Perform the duties of a Pharmacy Technician I.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired:
• A minimum of six months experience as a Pharmacy Technician I in a retail pharmacy setting or equivalent experience.
• High school education or GED certificate.
• Experience with contacting insurance companies.
• Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Six (6) months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician 1 or equivalent education/experience.
- LEGAL REQUIREMENT: State of Washington Pharmacy Technician certification.
