The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a PROGRAM ASSISTANT.
Responsibilties:
•Perform specialized technical/clerical duties in support of the program activity of the Division of Public Behavioral Health and Justice Policy. Activities would include scheduling meetings and appointments with a large group of within University and external stakeholders who work on research, training and policy issues related to juvenile justice, child welfare and mental health.
•Under general supervision, perform work requiring knowledge and experience specific to the Divisions activities which include implementing multiple clinical consultation programs which provide interventions for youth involved in the juvenile justice system who exhibit behavioral health disorders and are located locally and throughout the US and Great Britain.
•Provide students, staff, program participants and/or the public with information and interpretation of policies and activities related to program specialty. A newly established Certificate Program in Children’s Evidence Based Practice will be initiated next fall. The Program Assistant will be the administrative liaison to potential applicants and provide support to faculty implementing this Certificate. Administrative liaison with the Continuum College and Department of Psychology will be part of this individuals’ duties.
•Compose written communications, and establish and maintain records relating to program operations.
•Serve as primary contact with program participants; provide information regarding program policies and activities; perform a variety of public relations functions; In collaboration with staff and faculty help maintain the Divisions website.
•Compose correspondence, printed materials, and/or news releases related to program policies, procedures, and operations; edit materials for accuracy, appearance, readability, and style;
•Compile and distribute information relative to program activities, confer with other campus departments and outside agencies; serve as resource person for campus committees concerned with program operations; interpret statistical data, historical activity reports, and other materials in the functional area;
•Coordinate arrangements for program activities such as meetings, conferences, and banquets;
•Schedule appointments and meetings;
•Establish and maintain records and files, record statistical information;
•Prepare narrative and/or statistical reports regarding program operations;
•Perform complex word processing tasks such as merging and sorting, integrating text with graphics, spreadsheet and data base files, uploading and downloading and creating footnotes and outlines;
•Use spreadsheet and data base software to develop and maintain records;
•Use basic statistical software packages and simple computer inquiry programming;
•Use graphics software and make recommendations regarding appropriate display of graphic information;
•May order, receive, and maintain inventory;
•May use desk top publishing software;
•May direct the work of others;
•Perform related duties as required

•High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of full-time clerical experience OR Equivalent education/experience
