UW Bothell – Recreation and Wellness has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager of Fitness
As part of the Division of Student Affairs and under the general direction of the Director of Recreation & Wellness, the Program Manager of Fitness provides support to the Department of Recreation and Wellness for Cascadia and UW Bothell students. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of fitness programming through hiring and providing supervision to student and part-time fitness instructors. This position also procures general fitness equipment following state regulations and university policies, provides, and coordinates maintenance to equipment. This position plays a key role in the support the department and division through representation on committees, working groups, and other roles or duties outside of the normal day-to-day responsibilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fitness Instructor Management:
o Responsible for the day-to-day operations and effective management of group fitness programming, inclusive of the fitness center equipment maintenance, and Activities and Recreation Center studio facility upkeep.
o Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate student and part-time (Non-UW-Bothell/Cascadia College) fitness instructors.
o Plan, administer, and promote group fitness program, while aligning all classes and procedures to industry standards.
o Develop and coordinate periodic in-service trainings for fitness staff.
o Management of group fitness participant class registration software (Innosoft Fusion).
o Assist in the development and implementation of the program’s risk management policies.
o Provide and coordinate the maintenance of the equipment for group fitness; ensure equipment is maintained.
o Work with university-approved vendors to provide periodic maintenance of equipment, and procure new equipment when appropriate following appropriate state regulations and university policies.
Budget Management:
o Manage and reconcile the fitness center budget.
o Project and submit new budget requests annually.
Administrative and Operations Management:
o Work with Director of Recreation and Wellness to develop long and short-term strategic goals.
o Work with Director of Recreation & Wellness on development and assessment of policies and procedures.
o Serve on Division of Student Affairs and University related committees; and work cooperatively with colleagues on campus and at other institutions.
o Staff major events and programs, including campus events, for example, convocation, graduation, student housing move-in day, orientation check-in, etc.
o Stay abreast of best practices and network with colleagues via professional associations.
o Utilize data assessment to support programmatic decision making.
o Keep Director of Recreation & Wellness apprised of emerging or ongoing issues in areas of responsibility.
o Other duties as assigned.
Department Marketing:
o Develop an integrated marketing plan for programs and services.
REQUIREMENTS
o Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Administration or related field.
o A minimum of two years of experience coordinating a fitness program in a collegiate or community setting.
o Detailed oriented, highly organized individual who has the ability to multitask and the ability to deal with a variety of situations and people in a respectable manner.
o Team oriented with excellent communication and leadership skills.
o Possess an understanding of student development philosophy as it relates to recreation and wellness on a university campus and a knowledge of current trends in fitness and campus recreation.
o Work effectively in a multicultural environment.
o Ability to think creatively to develop Group Fitness programming opportunities.
DESIRED
o Master’s Degree from accredited intuition in Recreation, Kinesiology, or related field within campus recreation
o Demonstrated proficiency in qualifications listed.
o Experience managing staff and working in higher education.
o Understanding of an alignment with the University, Divisional, and Departmental mission, vision, and values.
o Accredited Group Fitness Certification, or obtain within 6 months of hire
o Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, or obtain within 6 months of hire.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
o A work schedule that fluctuates due to some after hours activities, meetings, and events is common.
o The Program Manager is expected to attend major student activities and events held on campus and in the local community.
o The Program Manager has regular and frequent contact with students, as well as frequent contact with faculty, staff, and administrators.
o Some late night and weekend hours can be apart of a normal work week.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
