The UW's Office of the Provost has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary,Full-Time Project Manager for Planning & Budgeting.

Reporting directly to the Vice Provost, the Project Manager will coordinate high-level, end-to-end short- and long-term projects in the Office of Planning & Budgeting (OPB) at the University of Washington, Seattle. The project manager will work within OPB on specific and general deployments to ensure timely delivery of both sensitive and enterprise-wide initiatives. The project manager will be expected to employ technological tools, as well as proven project management disciplines, to coordinate work on behalf of OPB's leadership team, working in support of its directors, senior director and Vice Provost. Occasionally, the project manager will support initiatives and end-to-end projects of the Executive Office of the President and Provost of the University of Washington. Competitive candidates will exhibit a record of effectively balancing multiple competing deadlines, different perspectives, judgment and confidentiality. Competitive candidates will have excellent project management skills, written and oral communication skills and have the ability to work with minimal supervision, either independently or in a collaborative team environment.

The Project Manager will flex constantly, working with multiple leaders, such as vice presidents and deans, and then shifting to independent work, managing a forward calendar and project tracking for the office. The Project Manager will engage in confidential and highly dynamic issues, flexing their style for maximum effectiveness. The successful candidate will be joining a fast-paced work environment that already has several projects underway and consistently balances a number of short and long-term projects in parallel.    

The Project Manager will be deployed on the formal review of the University's budget allocation model, known as Activity Based Budgeting. This deployment will serve the university community in ensuring that the full scope is delivered in a timely manner, and that key milestones are met. The Project Manager's work in this area will affect the success of OPB in updating and improving the model by which funding is provided to Seattle schools, colleges and administrative units. In addition, the Project Manager will support a cross-functional team of subject matter experts in developing benefit load rates for the entire University, working with experts in Finance, Facilities, OPB, Medicine, and Human Resources. Finally, the Project Manager will support OPB's leadership team by ensuring that critical deadlines are met as the office develops the university's operating budget.     

Duties & Responsibilities

Support successful, timely and comprehensive OPB and University projects and initiatives by:
•         Creating and implementing project plans, and other planning materials to support ad-hoc and regular reports for OPB, and other units, as assigned
•         Assisting in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
•         Setting deadlines, assign responsibilities and monitor and summarize project progress
•         Coordinating meetings between staff, consultants and user groups
•         Preparing reports for upper management regarding project status
•         Tracking progress performance, specifically as they pertain to project goals

Identify and implement non-technical process improvements as well as technical solutions

Identify areas of potential process weakness, document handoffs and dependencies, and communicate these issues effectively and thoughtfully in reports regarding project status

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Communications, or related field.
4 years professional experience, including extensive project management and communications training, proven track record for effectively managing layered and nuanced projects in a complex environment.
Experience with multiple modes of project management tools and philosophies.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically the ability to clearly articulate and communicate to diverse groups including faculty, academic administration, leadership and others.
Ability to foster collaboration across the project team.
Strong, documented skills in the areas of organization, problem-solving and relationship building.
Comfortable with adapting to changing environments, shifting priorities and some ambiguity.

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in Project Management, Information Management, MBA, or related
PWP certification a plus.
