The Department of Genome Sciences (GS) is part of the University of Washington School of Medicine and is comprised of 27 labs addressing leading edge questions in biology and medicine by developing and applying genetic, genomic and computational approaches taking advantage of genomic information now available for a host of species. GS is making major contributions in the application of genome science to understand the fundamentals of biology and to improve human health and wellbeing. Genome Sciences is a collaborative department supported by very different academic disciplines.
The Department of Genome Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a SUPPLY CHAIN PROJECT MANAGER, CORONAVIRUS HOME TEST KITS.
The Brotman Baty Institute (BBI) for Precision Medicine was co-founded by collaborative agreement between the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The BBI’s mission is to take advantage of the unique ecosystem, as well as Seattle’s collaborative culture, towards having a transformative impact on biomedical research and patient outcomes. The BBI works at the intersection of technology development and medicine in areas including medical genetics, cancer biology, infectious disease and technology development.
The Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine is looking for a candidate to fill a unique project manager position within the Seattle Flu Study (SFS) now also known as the Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network (SCAN), whose goal is to monitor and understand the movement of influenza, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19, and other respiratory pathogens within the city of Seattle.
Position Purpose:
The purpose of the Supply Chain Project Manager (PM) position is to lead execution of the direct-to-public self-collection supply chain and logistics activities for a high-resolution, multi-year study of influenza and other respiratory illnesses in Seattle. This position resides within the SFS/SCAN administrative core team that centrally manages satellite SFS/SCAN team goals and activities.
The focus of this position is to develop the supply chain (procurement and logistics) for direct-to-public sample collection, develop protocols, and to work with the research and public relations teams to help recruit participants that are not seeking clinical care. The PM will work in collaboration with funding agencies, public health agencies, and partners at the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's, the Institute for Disease Modeling, and area hospitals to execute this research program. The PM will report directly to the Program Director (PD) of this study. This position will require strong organizational and operational skills, the ability to define complex processes, decompose them into manageable parts and drive iterative improvements, and the ability to work well in a multi-collaborative team.
Another aspect of this role involves UW collaborations as well as public health agencies to understand and implement existing pandemic planning and response protocols in order to perform supply chain scenario modeling and execution that incorporates the use of private sector logistics companies for rapid last mile (on demand) delivery.
This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal oversight. This position requires the skills to prioritize activities and multi-task to complete multiple scopes of work. The PM will manage and develop program work plans.
