Job Summary

This position supports providers in the Digestive Health Center (DHC) caring for a specialized group of patients with Gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. This is a unique role within the department – it is specialized to both clinical and pre- post procedure care and provides the candidate with a range of duties and a level or responsibility that encourages professional collaboration, growth and development. This position also supports and works in conjunction with the operations of the DHC.

Registered Nurses perform duties under general direction. RN provides patient care and coordination of services through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care. Communicates with providers and team members about patient’s clinical condition, including symptoms and results of diagnostic tests. Completes follow-up as directed by provider. As a member of the health care team, the Registered Nurse helps to create a culture of professional excellence and helps to maintain an environment that respects cultural, economic, and ethnic and lifestyle differences of patients and staff. General supervision is provided by the manager or designee.

Duties & Responsibilities

Participates in the provision of health care services to patients attending the Digestive Disease Center

• Explains role to patients and families
• Assesses physical and psychosocial care needs of patients and family across the continuum of care
• Identifies learning needs and appropriate educational resources
• Provides telephone triage and consultations to patients with problems related to GI condition/procedure
• Maintains timely and complete oral and written communication documentation per established hospital protocols
• Patient advocate – education/teaching for patient comprehension
• Monitors medical needs of the patient – assessment – labs – imaging – allergies
• Medications – prescriptions/authorizations/administration
• Enter/pend various orders under the direction of the provider
• Patient education on medication regimes and the administration of the medications
• Coordinates home health and other referral
• Provides Nursing Care to patients in clinic
• Participates in the process of providing information for financial support including the appeal process

Contributes to the development, implementation and function of the DHC

• Assists with the development of standards, policies and procedures for the DHC
• Evaluates quality of service being provided to patients and implements changes required
• Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of caremaps
• Reviews pertinent literature regarding GI patients.

Billing Practices

• Demonstrates understanding of billing practices

Perform related duties as required.   
 
Requirements:  Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington. BSN strongly preferred.

Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
 
Desired:  Demonstrated computer experience on PC or PC compatible using a variety of software Programs especially Word, Outlook and Excel.
