Our Pre-Anesthesia Clinic RN3s provide pre-anesthetic management and operations support to nurses who provide assessment and teaching to 40-60 patients/day, either in clinic or by phone.

1. Systematically applies the nursing process.
2. Manages patient care through appropriate delegation, supervision, and resource management, including efficient use of own time.
3. Ability to coordinate care based on the research protocol and coordinates this with investigator and subject.
4. Prioritizes care based on protocol requirements, subject’s needs, subject’s preferences, available resources, and other departments needs for subject appointments.
5. Coordinates and facilitates care with nurse colleagues and the investigative team.
6. Teaches subject, family and others as required by the protocol.7. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
8. Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff.
9. Demonstrates effective communication with the charge nurse, NM, co-workers, physicians and all members of research team.
10. Demonstrates proper identification and reporting of actual and potential errors.
11. Documentation reflects the nursing process and meets departmental and organizational and regulatory standards.
12. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and functional in stressful situations.
13. Recognizes, responds to and manages emergency situations according to standards.
14. Precepts newly hired nurses and orients new personnel to the department as needed.
15. Functions in the charge nurse role if needed.
16. Complies with specific UWMC policies for infection control.
17. Promotes effective communication among staff and patients to assure optimal patient outcomes and positive service area environment.
18. Assists with planning or implementation of educational programs for staff and/or patients.
19. Coordinates an orientation program for new staff.
20. Provides feedback and guidance to staff; observes and reviews staff performance.
21. Identifies the individual capabilities of staff; provides counseling, instruction, or additional experience as needed; and consults with the Manager if further action is indicated.
22. Involves staff in monitoring resource use to promote efficient and effective care delivery.
23. Coordinates scheduling process.
24. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Asks patients and families about specific beliefs, practices, and customs that may be relevant and important during medical treatment and hospitalization. 5. Communication - Ability to proficiently read, write, understand, and communicate in English commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position to understand and respond to policies, procedures, overhead pages and alarms, in a manner that will ensure personal health and safety, and the safety of other staff, patients, and visitors, during the course of an emergency or an unusual incident, should one occur while present at the work site or in the facility.

Professional Requirements
1. Complies with UWMC dress code and wears ID badge while on duty.
2. Completes annual educational requirements and unit based competencies.
3. Is punctual and attends meetings as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
4. Attends in-services and returns documentation if required.
5. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
6. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the medical center, as well as the departmental scope of service.
Active and clear license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State. BSN required. Two years of professional nursing experience, charge nurse experience.
