Our PERINATAL SERVICES, which includes antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum services, cares for up to 14 antepartum patients, 9 L & D patients, 18 postpartum mother/baby pairs, and provides outpatient services when the Maternal Infant Care Clinic is closed.  We have about 150 deliveries a month and as a quaternary care hospital, we see a high percentage (70%) of high risk OB moms and neonates with medically complex co-morbidities. We are a certified WHO-Baby Friendly Hospital, sustained by a team of experienced bedside nurses and Lactation Consultants. Our Maternal-Infant patient population is ethnically and medically diverse.  We have 24/7 in-house: Residents, Attending Generalist OB’s and Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists, OB Anesthesia.  We staff according to AWHONN standards. Our Clinical Nurse Specialist initiates and supports evidence-based nursing practice and nursing practice excellence through process improvements, in cooperation with our Local practice Council of RNs from L&D, Mother/Baby and antepartum.

As a teaching hospital and research center, we're deeply committed to the enhancement of care for our patients-as well as the professional growth of our staff. As a testament to this commitment, we're proud to be recognized with Magnet Hospital status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  In fact, we were the first hospital to receive this designation.  We're also consistently named one of the nation's best hospitals, as reported by U.S. News and World Report.

Such national recognition attests to our commitment to high-quality care, and to the outstanding professionalism and skill that exists at UWMC.  As a registered nurse (RN), you can be a part of this highly skilled team, working within a culture that is both innovative and collaborative.  Here, you will work in tandem with physicians and other health care practitioners to provide superior, award-winning nursing care.  In short, you will not only follow best practice, you will create it!
