Built upon more than two decades of research, the National LGBTQ Research Center is dedicated to creating innovations to address the health, aging, and well-being of LGBTQ midlife and older adults, their families and caregivers. It is distinguished by its innovative responses to the changing nature and diversity of aging in our society. The Center houses several research studies, including multiple federally funded projects, which illuminate innovation in the use of science to promote best practices in research, education, and practice to promote equity and reduce social, economic and health disparities now and for generations to come.
The Research Assistant will be involved in the Center’s research projects. Aging with Pride: NHAS (National Health, Aging, and Sexuality/Gender Study) (NIH/NIA; R01) is the first federally funded, national longitudinal study of LGBTQ midlife and older adult health to identify modifiable factors that account for health trajectories in these communities. Aging with Pride: IDEA (Innovations in Dementia, Empowerment and Action) (NIH/NIA, R01) is the first federally funded study to develop and test interventions for LGBTQ older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their care partners. Additional Center research includes Sexual and Gender Minority Health Disparities, a national population-based study of the health of sexual and gender minorities, and other studies.
The National LGBTQ Research Center is dedicated to creating innovations to address the health, aging, and well-being of LGBTQ midlife and older adults, their families and caregivers. It houses multiple landmark federally funded projects including Aging with Pride: NHAS (National Health, Aging, and Sexuality/Gender Study) (NIH/NIA; R01) and Aging with Pride: IDEA (Innovations in Dementia, Empowerment and Action) (NIH/NIA, R01), in addition to other research projects. The research team is an interdisciplinary collaboration in practice, education, and research and the Research Assistant is expected to function as a full member of the team to achieve the project goals. This position will assist in developing a knowledge base designed to improve health, aging and well-being in underserved and under-studied communities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with participants including: assist with conducting participant screening, scheduling and phone assessments; administer surveys over the phone; answer phone calls and e-mails; and track and trace participants in order to retain them in studies.
Communications including: proofread and edit recruitment materials, reports, manuscripts, press releases, presentations; assist with dissemination of research findings via newsletters, website, press releases, etc.; manage printing of recruitment materials, surveys, newsletters, etc.; execute mail merges and manage large-scale postal and e-mail mailings; update and circulate on-going team activities/schedules; assist in the coordination of project meetings and minutes; and direct communication with stakeholders and the general public.
Working with data including: assist with data cleaning; enter survey data and contact information updates in REDCap; and maintain confidentiality of participant records and data.
Assist in maintaining Human Subjects approval.
Assist with documentation of project expenditures.
Preform related duties as required.
