The University of Washington's Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is considered to be among the top five Divisions of General Internal Medicine in the nation. General Internal Medicine, established in 1985, has rapidly grown to be the largest Division in the UW Department of Medicine. The Division conducts its activities at the UW Medical Center (UWMC), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS), with research sites located at multiple sites across Seattle.
GIM has an annual budget of nearly $50 million including over 30 research faculty, 30 current grants and $12 million in annual grant expenditures. The Division's Clinical Practice at HMC and UWMC generates gross billings of over $14 million annually with nearly 200 faculty members participating in direct patient care. Faculty and staff are spread between 10 sites; including Harborview, Metropolitan Park, Pat Steel, the University District, and Fremont, with 90 staff spread amongst these locations.
The CHRU within the Division of General Internal Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time 100% FTE Research Coordinator. The unit is comprised of 2 Co-Directors, 9 investigators (from General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Epidemiology and Biostatistics) and 23 research staff. The mission of the CHRU is to further the development and application of knowledge related to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The Unit currently manages approximately 40 research awards, totaling over $10 million annually.

Tasks will also include coordinating data collection, working with the data manager to reconcile data among multiple data sources.
(2) The Research Coordinator will coordinate the collection and supervise the handling of blood specimens and act as a liaison with collaborating institutions such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Harborview Medical Center to ensure correct procedures are followed. The Research Coordinator will also coordinate and monitor the off-site storage of biospecimens in accordance with study guidelines, as well as liaison between multiple Emergency Medical Service agencies, their research groups, multiple laboratories, other UW research groups, and community vendors. The Research Coordinator will also pull specimens to ship to other facilities and inventory the specimens as needed.
