The Department of Health Services has an excellent opportunity for a Research Coordinator to work with the Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC), one of 26 Prevention Research Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. HPRC conducts community-based research that promotes the health and well-being of middle-aged and older adults, particularly those with lower incomes and in ethnic/cultural minority populations most at risk of health disparities. The Research Coordinator will support activities of the newly funded NIH grant Supporting Decision-Making for Individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias.
This position will coordinate a study that is developing and evaluating a preference elicitation tool for older adults with mild to moderate dementia and their caregivers. The study will involve exploratory interviews with individuals with mild to moderate dementia, their caregivers, and staff working with individuals with dementia to better understand the factors that contribute to decision making about transitions of care. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating this multiple-department and multi-center study which involves working closely with the research team, partnering memory care clinics, and assisted living institutions.
Housed in the UW School of Public Health, the Department of Health Services is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department's common cause.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Coordinate and participate in the design of specific phases of projects; manage timelines and allocation of resources to insure complex research activities are accomplished on time and on budget
•Collaborate with research team on development and testing of project materials, including recruitment, intervention and evaluation materials, participant tracking and payment
•Coordinate communications between the principal investigator, team members and research partners, center administrative staff, health services administration and local and national partners (which may include state agencies, health departments, and academic/research organizations)
•Coordinate and attend investigator meeting, research project team meetings; advisory board meetings; organize sessions with participants for prioritizations; develop agendas and track action items
•Conduct data collection activities such as surveys, qualitative interviews and focus groups; code qualitative data; track and archive data and research results; and provide data analysis
•Managing the transcription process including preparing for transcription, working with vendors, uploading and downloading transcripts and ensuring the quality and security of transcripts
•Develop and submit Institutional Review Board applications, and ensure compliance with human subjects requirements
•Manage data collection and organizations from researchers and partner organizations; oversee data use agreements (if applicable); ensure data organization and security. Managing study databases.
•Review existing research, literature, and resources to contribute to the development of research instruments and deliverables. Prepare and collaborate on manuscripts and PowerPoint presentations
•Create and maintain study communication channels and materials including website development and maintenance, fliers and research updates
•Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
•Master's degree in Public Health or related field
•Two years of experience managing research projects
•Experience coordinating complex projects with multiple project team members who come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including academic investigators and researchers, and members of community organizations
•Highly organized and attentive to detail, and ability to balance multiple demands simultaneously under time constraints
•Experience coordinating schedules, scheduling meeting and organizing study materials including data collection.
•Demonstrated research skills, in both qualitative and quantitative methods (design, implementation, and analysis)
•Experience in data collection, development, organization and management
•Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated oral presentation skills, both with and without Microsoft PowerPoint, and ability to communicate well with people from diverse ethnic/racial, socioeconomic, and professional backgrounds
•Ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as part of a team
•Ability to exercise sound judgment and to address complex situations with creativity
•Ability to review existing research, literature, and resources to contribute to research deliverables
•Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
•Ability to travel to community partner sites throughout Washington state as needed. After hire, a valid driver’s license is required along with completion of UW Fleet Services Basic Driver Training in order to operate University Vehicles for travel.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired Qualifications:
•Two years of experience conducting research or working professionally with older adults.
•Strong interest improving the lives of older adults with dementia
•Educational emphasis in person centered care and community research
•Experience preparing and managing the UW human subjects/Institutional Review Board process
•Experience with qualitative interviewing and qualitative analysis and/or survey software Survey Monkey, RedCap.
•Experience working with UW administrative systems
Conditions of Employment:
Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary to meet deadlines. May split work time between multiple office and research locations.
