The Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (HIPRC) is a worldwide leader in injury cause and prevention research. Founded in 1985, HIPRC is a multidisciplinary research center supported by the University of Washington School of Medicine and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. HIPRC faculty and staff are devoted to conducting research, education, and community outreach aimed at diminishing the personal impact of trauma, and broadening the effectiveness of injury prevention and treatment programs regionally and nationally.
HIPRC seeks a Research Coordinator to work with the recently established Firearm Injury & Policy Research Program (FIPRP). FIPRP investigators are actively involved in examining causes and consequences of firearm violence and injury, and evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of public policy for firearm violence and injury prevention.
Research projects will include:
The Research Coordinator will perform research tasks including recruiting and interviewing of human subjects, preparing human subject applications and preparing progress reports. The Research Coordinator will also coordinate data collection and recording for multiple research projects, assist with developing strategies for accurate data tracking and management, and communicating with external agencies or institutions regarding the research project’s data collection strategies. This position reports to the Firearm Program Research Scientist with a highly matrixed relationship to the Firearm Program faculty investigators and to the Administrator of the HIPRC.
While this is a beginning level of research coordination, the successful research coordinator requires strong communication skills to coordinate subject recruitment and strong organizational skills to implement reliable data collection. The RC must exhibit a high level of professionalism and maturity as the individual will interact with other UW faculty and staff, as well as external institutions and community members. The RC must have competent writing skills to be able to communicate clearly via email, and to prepare summary and progress reports.
The RC interacts with HIPRC and FIPRP faculty and staff, with other UW faculty and staff, and with external institutions and organizations. The success of FIPRP research projects and policy evaluations may result in positive publicity for the university. The FIPRP may also bring in additional grant and/or donor funds to the university.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, health sciences or related field
Type and Years of Experience: Minimum one year experience in public health or other types of medical research
