The Department of Ophthalmology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 1.
This is considered an entry-level position. The Research Scientist 1 will perform routine scientific/engineering work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific or engineering procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives.
Assignments will require investigation of a limited number of variables and few complex features. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of alternatives. This position requires work experience acquired at the technician level, or appropriate graduate level study. For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level.
Candidate will work under limited supervision to complete assigned tasks/projects, demonstrating the ability to work independently. Supervisor will screen assignments for unusual or difficult problems, and select techniques and procedures to be applied to non-routine work. Incumbent will receive close supervision on new aspects of assignments.
Standard laboratory/project protocols include: PCR and gel electrophoresis; Flow cytometry; Western blot; Cell culture; Experimental animal husbandry; Performing in-vivo imaging assays; Taking tissue samples from laboratory animals for experimental procedures and entering and cataloguing data

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
