The Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) is a $70M health research institute based at the University of Washington, with integrated partnerships with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital, and numerous organizations engaged in health research in five states in the Northwest region. The mission of ITHS is to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries to the clinic and beyond to improve the health of people in our region today. We develop critical resources to help innovators move their discoveries forward. ITHS fosters innovative health research, sustains research resources, and provides education and career development programs.
The ITHS Community Engagement Program has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist to support its work of engaging and collaborating with clinicians, clinical organizations, patients and community-based organizations in research. Supporting investigators in translating their discoveries into practice involves numerous disciplines (e.g., medicine, engineering, informatics) and studies of varying types (e.g., drug and device trials, public health, basic science) at different stages of development (e.g., phase I-IV, observational, implementation). The ITHS is a multi-institutional organization, serving investigators with differing levels of experience (senior, early-career and trainee) across a vast geographic region by providing resources such as research networks and facilities, technical cores, scientific services and educational and training programs.
The Research Scientist must be able to adapt to the operations, priorities and policies of and establish a rapport with members of research networks, take direction from multiple program leaders, manage competing priorities, use good judgment and critical thinking to problem solve and function under strict deadlines. This position involves remote and in-person interactions with investigators, clinicians, patients and community members.
