The Haring Center for Inclusive Education is seeking a Research Scientist to support the activities of a project entitled, “Special Education Technical Assistance and Support in Washington State Charters” funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Research duties will include coordinating all training, intervention, and data collection efforts of the grant activity.
General Information: The Research Scientist will support the PIs of the grant by coordinating and managing all activities on the project. Responsibilities include coordinating and conducting classroom observations using a standardized observation instrument, interviewing teachers using a structured protocol, coordinating the Project Echo Model trainings, maintaining a database, and maintaining confidentiality. The Research Scientist must comply with all requirements for research with human subjects.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
• Successfully complete project management training
• Maintain compliance with and communication Project ECHO team at the University of New Mexico
• Oversee participant recruitment and consent participants for the project
• Serve as primary contact for programs and districts participating in the study
• Recruit and collaborate with experts for Project ECHO hub at the Haring Center
• Participate and co-lead project meetings
• Serve as data manager to ensure data privacy and data quality
• Develop relationships with and collaborate with professionals in the charter sector in Washington State
• Manage and coordinate training, coaching, and data collection schedule
• Meet and communicate regularly with the PIs about project duties
• Contribute ideas and comments to proposals, plans, and other research development activities
• Contribute data/findings for use in reports, documents, or oral/written presentations
• Assist in procurement of new funding through contributions to technical reports and/or presentations
• Guide the work of research assistants to achieve specific assignments
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the PIs
Minimum Requirements:
• A PhD in Special Education or related field and at least 1-2 years of related experience
• Current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
• Knowledge of and experience in providing behavioral support to students with disabilities
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
• Training on the Project ECHO model
• Understand coaching techniques and have experience coaching classroom teachers
• Reliable transportation
• Well organized, punctual
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
Desired:
• Experience with developing observation systems
• Experience with single case research design
• Experience with large project management
• Experience on funded research projects or contributing to extramurally funded grants
