The Pollack Lab in the UW Department of Bioengineering has an excellent opportunity for a part-time (50% FTE) Research Scientist/Engineer 1. Research projects in the Pollack Lab explore the role of the fourth phase of water in all of nature, particularly in human health.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general direction of the Principal Investigator, this position will conduct research on water to test hypotheses about the role of water in health.

• Perform basic and applied research according to established protocols; analyze data and prepare it for publication or other dissemination.
• Contribute to research publications and grant proposals; edit content to suit audience.
• Perform graphic design and layout using existing templates.
• Prepare the laboratory for research projects performed by students; duties include purchasing materials and supplies, updating the MyChem database, and managing inventory.
• Coordinate the training of staff and students; monitor to ensure they have completed required EH&S and lab specific training.
• Adjust research protocols as needed upon analysis and discussion of research results.
• Ensure that mandatory record-keeping is performed with accuracy and timeliness.
• Perform research in compliance with UW and laboratory protocols and in a safe manner.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in biology, bioengineering, or related field in the biological/life sciences.
• At least one year of experience working in a research environment.

Additional Requirements:
• Experience overseeing the work of undergraduate students in a research setting.
• Ability to independently prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines.
• Willingness and ability to ask questions and seek help when needed.
• Willingness and ability to learn new systems and to implement new processes in response to changes.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with lab personnel and effectively maintain inventory of materials and supplies.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
• Knowledge of UW eProcurement system.
• Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety training requirements and resources.
