The Department of Urology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1 - Animal (Mouse) Facility.
The employee occupying this position will perform investigative research work in the Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) Animal Facility, working with and caring for unique prostate cancer patient-derived xenografts growing in immuno-compromised mice, in the Genitourinary Cancer Research Laboratory in the Department of Urology. This position will perform routine scientific work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
A B.S. in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science or related field, or equivalent experience, plus at least one year of experience working in a murine animal facility with knowledge of aseptic technique, blood draws, injections, necropsies, mouse handling and husbandry. Experience in histology and / or immunohistochemistry is required.
Must be willing to work with radioactive materials and biohazards, including, but not limited to, human and animal tissues and their bodily fluids. The candidate will be required to participate in the Occupational Health Program. The candidate will be required to attend, participate, and pass (where required) the University of Washington’s training courses in Bloodborne Pathogens, Radiation Protection, General Animal Use, Mouse Techniques, and additional courses as required for successful completion of job duties.
DESIRABLE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Five years’ experience working in a murine animal facility with knowledge of aseptic technique, blood draws, injections, necropsies, mouse handling and husbandry
Experience working in a urology laboratory or a cancer research laboratory.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Must be able to work under limited supervision to complete assigned tasks/projects demonstrating an ability to work independently.
Attention to detail and a positive team work attitude are critical requirements.
Regular and predictable attendance is required
