The Department of Genome Sciences, part of the University of Washington School of Medicine, focuses on answering critical scientific questions by developing and applying genetic, genomic and computational approaches. In particular, we are making major contributions in the application of genomics to understand the fundamentals of biology and to improve human health and wellbeing. Genome Sciences boasts a collaborative, integrated environment supported by a diversity of academic disciplines. We also work with a multitude of others both on the UW campus as well as worldwide. The department has been highly successful, expanding since its beginning in 2001 to 47 training, teaching, and research faculty with annual grant awards of $44M in FY18.

Position Description:
The Department of Genome Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 1 working in the Fields Lab to join a group composed of several laboratories that are developing technologies to engineer genomes and to quantify the effects of genetic variation at a large scale. This individual will work in a team effort to develop and apply technology that will generate sequence variation in coding sequences and assess the effect of this variation on protein activity. The candidate will perform different tasks according to project needs and will also have the chance to work more independently given sufficient motivation and work efficiency.
