Join a dynamic, interdisciplinary research team developing treatments for paralysis. We have several active research projects exploring novel treatments for spinal cord injury or stroke to help people with challenges using their hands and arms. Approaches include spinal stimulation combined with physical and occupational therapy.
Electrical & Computer Engineering has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Research Scientist / Engineer 1.
This position involves performing hands-on therapy during spinal cord stimulation, as well as the collection and analysis of experimental data describing the recovery of hand function after injury. A degree in physical or occupational therapy is required, as well as experience working with people with neurological injuries in a research setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform rehabilitation and training of upper extremity movement during spinal stimulation experiments
2. Collect standardized outcome measures before, during and after interventions
3. Analyze data on movement, muscle activity, and medical condition
4. Participate in lab meetings and planning sessions, and coordinate with other project team members
5. Manage laboratory supplies, inventory, and regulatory IRB submissions and revisions
6. Prepare publications and grant applications for submission and revision
REQUIREMENTS:
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
