UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1. The person in this role will focus on malaria immunology and diagnostics. Our laboratory aims to develop a highly effective multi-antigen malaria vaccine and, where needed, to develop companion diagnostic and measurement tools that allow us to monitor the clinical, microbiological and immunological impact of vaccination on animal and human infections.
General Duties:
- Responsible for production of DNA vaccines for acute challenge and other vaccine efforts.
- Responsible for inventory of vaccines and vaccine components including DNA plasmids, bacterial stocks, etc.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Assist with laboratory bacterial cloning projects.·
- Develop new T cell immunology experiments.
- Perform T cell immunology and malaria in vitro and in vivo studies.
- Perform in vitro culture of cell lines and primary mouse and human cells.
- Assist research scientists developing novel assays, under direct supervision modifying and refining procedures and techniques to obtain optimal results.
- Assist with malaria culturing.
- Conduct experiments to test malaria diagnostic assay performance.
- Attend and participate in lab meetings.
- The employee will sometimes be asked to work on the weekends in support of certain experiments.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in a Biology related field such as microbiology, genetics, pre-med, medical technology, etc. AND 2 months to 1 year of job-related experience.
