The new Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2 position at the intersection of cutting edge technology development and medicine. The institute bridges the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The Advanced Technology Lab (BAT-lab) is a new entity within this new institute, and will be administratively located within the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. The mission of the Advanced Technology Lab will be to make cutting-edge ‘-omics’ technologies, including many developed by labs at the member institutions, broadly available to the Institute’s research community.
Position purpose:
We seek an individual with strong cellular biology skills for the Advanced Technology Lab at the Brotman Baty Institute. The scientist will be responsible for:
1) Developing and implementing protocols to prepare nuclei suspensions for single cell RNA and chromatin profiling from a diverse set of human and model organism tissues.
2) Consulting with collaborating labs in the community on best-practices nuclei preps.
The Department of Genome Sciences (GS) is part of the University of Washington School of Medicine and is comprised of 27 labs addressing leading edge questions in biology and medicine by developing and applying genetic, genomic and computational approaches taking advantage of genomic information now available for a host of species. GS is making major contributions in the application of genome science to understand the fundamentals of biology and to improve human health and wellbeing. Genome Sciences is a collaborative department supported by very different academic disciplines. We work with a multitude of Program Investigators (PIs) in departments both on the UW campus as well as worldwide. The department has gone through significant expansion since its beginning in 2001 with annual grant awards of $56M in FY19. The department has 47 training, teaching, and research faculty.
