The Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute (ADAI) has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time 60% FTE Research Scientist.
Recognizing a need to address the enormous problems caused by alcohol and drug abuse, UW established the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute (ADAI) in October, 1973 as an interdisciplinary research center. ADAI’s mission is to advance research, policy, and practice in order to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities affected by alcohol and drug use and addiction.
This Research Scientist position [60% FTE] supports a range of projects that address all aspects of ADAI’s mission. Specifically, this position will support projects related to substance use disorder, primarily opioid use disorder, as well interventions aimed to reduce morbidity and mortality from substance use. While projects intersect with traditional drug treatment and health care providers, the major innovation of these projects is to engage high needs people such as those who inject drugs, are homeless, and/or are involved with the criminal justice system in settings with which they already interact.
The purpose of these projects includes the implementation and ongoing support for interventions to reduce negative consequences of substance use disorder. This includes supporting the implementation of evidence based interventions for multiple federal and state funded implementation projects across Washington State via the provision of training, technical assistance, and ongoing consultation. Products created will include implementation toolkits to support care providers and community partners as they created treatment networks. Activities will include community based facilitation of inter-disciplinary stakeholder meetings to develop robust treatment networks as well as helping coordinate and host local conferences.
