The Haring Center for Inclusive Education is seeking a Research Scientist to support the activities of a project entitled, “Statewide Inclusion Facilitation” funded as a interagency agreement between UW and OSPI. Research duties will include coordinating all training, intervention, and data collection efforts of the interagency agreement.
General Information: The Research Scientist will support the PIs of the grant by coordinating and managing all activities on the project. Responsibilities include developing a process to recruit and evaluate inclusion demonstration sites at K-12 public schools across Washington State planning and implementing state wide training to improve instructional practices in inclusive schools, work collaboratively with personnel from OSPI, develop and disseminate materials to support inclusion in Washington state, maintaining a database, and maintaining confidentiality. The Research Scientist must comply with all requirements for research with human subjects.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
• Successfully complete project management training
• Maintain compliance with and communication OSPI staff
• Oversee participant recruitment and consent participants for the project
• Serve as primary contact for programs and districts participating in the training
• Develop materials for inclusion demonstration sites and lead the process of product revision and dissemination
• Participate and co-lead project meetings
• Serve as data manager to ensure data privacy and data quality
• Develop relationships with and collaborate with parents, advocates and professionals in other organizations interested in inclusive education
• Manage and coordinate training, coaching, and data collection schedule
• Meet and communicate regularly with the PIs about project duties
• Contribute ideas and comments to proposals, plans, and other research development activities
• Contribute data/findings for use in reports, documents, or oral/written presentations
• Assist in procurement of new funding through contributions to technical reports and/or presentations
• Guide the work of research assistants to achieve specific assignments
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the PIs
Minimum Requirements:
• A PhD in Special Education or related field and at least 3-5 years of experience working with staff and students in inclusive schools
• Knowledge of the appreciative inquiry methodology
• Knowledge of and experience in providing behavioral support to students with disabilities
• Knowledge of and experience in training and coaching special education teachers, general education teachers, and school leaders
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
• Reliable transportation
• Well organized, punctual
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
Desired:
• Experience with developing observation systems
• Experience with large project management
• Experience on funded research projects or contributing to extramurally funded grants
• Experience implementing equity based inclusion practices in diverse school communities
• Experience in consensus building strategies
