The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Study Coordinator 1 to provide significant support and coordination for the School Mental Health Assessment, Research and Training (SMART) Center. The overarching mission of the SMART Center is to promote high-quality, culturally-responsive programs, practices, and policies to meet the full range of social, emotional, and behavioral (SEB) needs of students in both general and special education contexts. The SMART Center aims to accomplish this mission by using innovative and practical research methods to:
The Center represents a transdisciplinary collaboration between faculty in the College of Education (CoE) and the School of Medicine (SoM; Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences) at the University of Washington. Through this collaboration, the SMART Center facilitates more equitable, effective, and integrated approaches to research and technical assistance surrounding the design and implementation of evidence-based SEB interventions.
Under direction of the Project Director, this Research Study Coordinator 1 position will coordinate the data collection and study activities on severalresearch studies, including BOLT, VIBRANT and SEE.
Brief Online Training for Routine Outcome Monitoring (BOLT) – This project is focused on designing and testing an online training platform and post-training consultation procedures to support measurement-based care / routine outcome monitoring among school-based mental health providers. Both the platform and the training will be iteratively developed using best practices from the field of user-centered design.
Virtual Implicit Bias Reduction & Neutralization Training (VIBRANT) – This project aims to develop and pilot test an online training to facilitate clinician self-assessment of implicit racial bias and improve care for students receiving school mental health services. The training will be iteratively developed and pilot-tested.
