The School of Social Work has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator 1. Located in Toppenish Washington and part of the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute at the University of Washington, this position will support two studies. The first study is Healing Seasons: Pathways to our heart, mind, body, and spirit. The Healing Seasons study is a randomized comparison control trial conducted among 200 participants to assess a 2 different 6-week interventions. The two evidence-based interventions are 1) Motivational
Interviewing Therapy – a goal setting and skill based talk therapy (MIST) and 2) Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) a story based exposure therapy. The culturally-grounded study is funded by the National Institutes of Minority Health and Health Disparities will address trauma symptoms and substance misuse concerns while facilitating positive sexual health behaviors.
The second study is the Yakama Nation Healthy Transitions program seeks to improve emotional and behavioral health functioning for Native American youth and young adults, ages 16-25, so that they can maximize their potential to assume adult roles and responsibilities, and lead full and productive lives. This will be accomplished by increasing awareness, screening and detection, outreach and engagement, referrals to trauma-informed treatment, coordination of care, and implementation of Transition to Independence Process (TIP) model. The program is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), implemented by the Yakama Nation, and program evaluation is conducted by the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, University of Washington. Program actvites take place in Toppenish, WA.
This is a full time position. Working under the direct supervision of the Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant will coordinate and implement the
onsite activities of the Healing Season and Healthy Transition research studies involving participants from a rural tribal community. The position requires in-depth knowledge of the community and skills specific to the study that include, but are not limited to, the coordination, scheduling, and monitoring of research activities and subject participation; interpret, apply, and maintain strict adherence to study protocol; conduct interviews; coordinate the management of study data; monitor data to maintain quality control; summarize study results and prepare reports. In addition, the applicant will be provide client support i.e., connecting participants to community resources and providing transportation to study activities.
Responsibilities
• Recruit, screen potential participants to determine eligibility according to study criteria; conduct consenting process and interviews with participants for the Healing Seasons research study;
• Must maintain confidentiality;
• Assist in establishing and maintaining contact with community agencies,
health care providers that serve American Indian and Alaska Native populations; refer participants to community service agencies as appropriate;
• Follow research protocols and verify accuracy of research study data for research team;
• Work closely with clinic and program staff as well as study participants in order to ensure seamless link to care and services;
• Interpret and record subject behaviors utilizing tools such as specific study rating scales, individual questionnaires, and other standardized assessments;
• Collect data in a variety of settings such as clinical and school settings, community centers, and/or participants' homes;
• Data entering, Follow research protocols, maintain and update participant study records;
• Maintain sound & video-tape equipment, upload files for review by research team;
• Assist in modification of procedures for collecting and summarizing data as necessary;
• Assist in maintaining a computerized system for tracking study participants; monitor data quality control to ensure adherence to study protocol and work with research team to revise procedures as needed;
• May direct the work of assigned staff;
• In conjunction with research coordinator, use study protocols to review and modify schedules as necessary;
• Provide referral and transportation services to participants.

Requirements
• Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant
• 1+ years of experience working directly with the Yakima Nation;
• 2 years of experience with data collection, data reporting, and data entering
• 2 years of experience coordinating community outreach activities;
• Ability to work independently, prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and conduct follow-up interviews;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken), with demonstrated ability to earn trust and respect of study participants and colleagues at all levels and from diverse American Indian and Alaska Native backgrounds;
• Available to work a flexible work schedule (some evening and weekends may be necessary);
• Flexibility with shifting priorities and competing demands in a fast-paced and challenging work environment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
