UW MEDICINE owns or operates the following: Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center (UWMC), a network of UW MEDICINE Neighborhood Clinics that provide primary care, UW Physicians, UW School of MEDICINE, Airlift Northwest, and other owned, operated, or affiliated entities as appropriate. In addition, UW MEDICINE shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance a partnership among UW MEDICINE, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, and Seattle Children’s.
The REVENUE CYCLE EDUCATOR - LIMITED TERM PROFESSIONAL STAFF designs, develops, and delivers Epic revenue cycle / patient access / patient financial services application training for UW Medicine staff and entity-based trainers, ensuring consistent messaging and competency acquisition across the enterprise.
1) Responsible for the Epic revenue cycle/patient access application training for UW Medicine from needs assessment to design and delivery, independently applying adult education theory and knowledge of current technology to educational solutions.
2) Negotiates scope and deadlines with customer departments, develops project plans with timelines, and manages work to ensure that deadlines and customer expectations are met.
3) Prioritizes workload and consults periodically with the Training Team Manager to ensure that priorities align with department and organizational goals and to obtain needed management support.
4) Collaborates with other educators on the team to identify new design methodologies, delivery techniques, and educational technologies to enhance educational offerings; to plan annual team goals; and to develop standard team administrative processes in support of the overall training program.
5) Brings to the job -- and continually works to expand -- the following body of knowledge:
* Hospital inpatient, outpatient operations, revenue cycle, and/or patient financial services
* Standardized workflows with departmental variations used at UW Medicine
* Organizational structure of UW Medicine and its affiliated organizations
* Adult education theory and technologies
* Epic patient access and revenue cycle systems at UW Medicine and how they intersect
6) Demonstrates analyst-level competency with assigned Epic applications in order to understand the workings behind the system interface, to oversee the build and manage the Epic training environment for scheduling training, and to provide function/feature/usability consultation to Epic analysts who support each application.
7) Plans own work schedule around the needs of customer departments.
8) Functions as an internal consultant to customer departments, developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with managers and supervisors of UW Medicine hospitals and clinics. Pays equal attention to the technical/business problem and interpersonal relationships.
9) Trains and mentors entity-based trainers and super users; collaborates with other Epic system educators across the enterprise.
University of Washington Medicine has committed significant state resources to acquire, install, and maintain the Epic system in order to increase revenue and decrease operational costs. Ongoing, quality Epic revenue cycle/patient access training is a major factor contributing to decreased front-end errors that result in denied claims and increased customer satisfaction with their outpatient clinic, procedural, and surgical experience at UW. The standardized, streamlined workflows taught will help reduce operating costs. All of these benefits result in increased revenue. As a person with primary responsibility for training specific Epic applications across the enterprise, this position plays a major role in UW Medicine's ability to reach these goals.
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
1) Consult with managers and business analysts to identify performance gaps, perform analysis to determine whether gaps are due to skill deficits, and if so, recommend and negotiate appropriate training solutions.
2) Develop performance-based training objectives and validate with department managers and supervisors
3) Design training solutions using effective, engaging training technologies and delivery methods.
4) Document requirements, design, and develop content for web-based solutions and coordinate development with the team Education Technology Specialist.
5) Develop content, training materials, and learner assessments.
6) Oversee the build of all patient, provider, and clinic data in the Epic Master training environment required for courses developed and taught.
7) Conduct usability tests of all materials and assessments for comprehension, accuracy, and ease of use.
8) Conduct evaluation of all training solutions developed.
TRAINING
1) Conduct instructor-led classes, both face-to-face and using synchronous web-based technology for entity-based trainers and end users on Epic revenue cycle systems.
2) Evaluate and monitor student learning using objectives, core competencies, knowledge checks, and assessments.
3) Notify managers of learners in need of additional training/practice and recommend appropriate solutions.
4) Proctor practice labs, monitoring student learning and providing assistance and feedback as needed.
5) Manage the transfer of training from classroom to job site by negotiating strategies with managers to be conducted by educator, learner, and managers before, during and after classes.
TRAINING ADMINISTRATION AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1) For each training development effort, use project management skills to negotiate scope and deliverables, identify resources, develop project plan and timeline, and manage all work to ensure timely delivery.
2) Oversee the development of the annual schedule of classes for on-going new employee training. Schedule other classes when needed.
3) Ensure that training rooms are reserved and all training locations are adequately equipped for regular and train-the-trainer classes.
4) Ensure that classes are scheduled, students registered, and attendance is tracked using the electronic learning management system for train-the-trainer classes.
5) Ensure that training scheduled is publicized to appropriate audiences.
6) Ensure that printed training materials are produced accurately, on time, and in most cost effective method.
COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION
1) Assist revenue cycle Epic IT and Operations analysts by participating in design reviews and providing feedback based on knowledge of end user workflows, observing and reporting end users use of revenue cycle applications in relation to standardized workflows, and assessing the impact of enhancements on end-user workflows.
2) Educate facility-based Epic technical support staff on revenue cycle systems applications. Collaborate on the development and delivery of training solutions.
3) Share educational perspectives and methods with Epic Clinical Informatics Educators and other educators across the enterprise.
4) Work closely with Educational Technology Specialist to utilize the electronic learning management system effectively.
5) Collaborate and consult with managers and supervisors to identify training needs, develop performance objectives, and manage the transfer of learning.
6) Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree with emphasis on Health Care, Education, Instructional Design, Technical Writing or related field.
4 to 5 years recent clinical, patient financial services, patient educator, or instructional design experience.
Equivalent education or work experience may substitute for the above.
DESIRED:
Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Health Care, Business Administration or the completion of a certificate program in Adult Education and Training, Educational Technology, or related area is preferred.
Certified/Credentialed/Proficient Trainer in Epic ADT/Prelude, Cadence, Hospital Billing, Referrals and/or EpicCare
Recent experience delivering Epic revenue cycle application systems training to health care staff.
Expert user of MS Office; Adobe Acrobat Pro; Snagit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks or similar graphics software. Familiarity with Adobe Captivate, Storyboard, and/or SharePoint.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Office environment - Maintains an office co-located with the Enterprise Revenue Cycle training team.
Ability to travel to classroom locations at the various entities that make up UW Medicine and its affiliates.
